How a new retail business nailed it in Malaysia

In the What Matters To Me series, a Generation T honouree describes what they do, why they do it, and why it matters.

The entrepreneur behind Malaysia’s first successful chain of nail parlours, Lim May Shen says that a differentiated product, a solid support network and indefatigable commitment are the keys to building a successful business.

Here, she describes her work in her own words.

The first lesson I’ve learned as an entrepreneur is to ensure that your product or service delivers real value. Second, ensure you have a great support system when you start out. Third, be willing to sacrifice more than you bargained for. Finally, don’t ever give up. We had to prove to mall management that The Nail Parlour could be a destination in itself.

My team and their commitment and sense of responsibility to deliver superlative service experiences to our customers are both my inspiration and drive. My team is basically my second family; they are a great motivational and grounding source for me. My philosophy is to be the best version of myself and do my very best by my family and friends, my team and my customers, with integrity and with gratitude.
