As artificial intelligence rapidly transforms the global business landscape, Lenovo is helping companies embrace the trend with cutting-edge solutions that will change the way we work

At its TechDay 2024 event in Singapore, Lenovo unveiled a comprehensive suite of AI-powered solutions designed to boost workplace productivity, enhance security and propel companies ahead of the curve.

The launch was aligned with Singapore’s $1 billion AI investment strategy to sharpen the nation’s competitive edge in the global technology landscape.

While most people recognise Lenovo as the biggest producer of personal computers, AI has been a key component of the company’s solutions—especially in its hardware and gaming machines.

The company’s AI-first approach mirrors the findings of its Global CIO Report 2024, where the buzz-worthy technology was identified as the top business priority for Chief Information Officers (CIOs) worldwide in navigating today’s fast-evolving digital landscape. By focusing on four key areas—namely technology, security, processes and people—Lenovo has crafted a holistic and bespoke strategy that empowers businesses and individuals in the AI era.

At the event, Nigel Lee, Lenovo Singapore’s country manager, shared how we are at an inflexion point where “an AI-powered future is not only about technology and smarter devices but about building a more inclusive, sustainable and intelligent world together.”

On how Lenovo prioritises its technological investments, he said, “We leverage market research and customer insights to identify emerging technologies that are earmarked with the potential to transform industries. We also work closely with our global teams and local partners including the government to ensure our investments address the unique needs of the Singapore market and policies—all while remaining strategically aligned with the broader vision.”

Securing the digital frontier

As businesses become increasingly digital, the need for robust cybersecurity has never been more critical. Lenovo’s new Cyber Resiliency as a Service (CRaaS) leverages AI to provide unparalleled protection against evolving online threats. By combining its device telemetry with Microsoft’s security suite, which includes its Copilot for Security and Defender for Endpoint, CRaaS offers a tailor-made solution for specific business needs.

Consider a financial services company handling sensitive client data. With CRaaS, it will be provided real-time threat detection and automated responses to potential security breaches. The AI-powered system can analyse patterns across the entire digital infrastructure, identifying and neutralising threats before they cause significant damage. This level of protection safeguards valuable data and instils confidence in clients and stakeholders.

During the demonstrations, Lenovo showcased its AI-powered Retail and Manufacturing solutions. Lenovo Retail Solutions—which combines hardware, software and services—won the Bronze award in the Commercial Technology category at the 2024 Edison Awards in April, the second ever received in the company’s history.

Lenovo’s self-service kiosks, digital signage and dynamic pricing systems help businesses create more engaging and personalised shopping experiences, on top of furthering each company’s sustainability agenda. For example, using digital signage with a five-year battery life reduces the need for paper production and wastage, while a compact self-service kiosk cuts plastic and metal use.

Lawrence Yu, general manager of Lenovo Retail Solutions, shared that these systems are already being used by several retailers in Singapore and can be implemented across other customer-facing businesses including hotels and restaurants.

Lenovo Manufacturing Solutions—which includes Pick Assist AMR, Industrial Computer Vision and Automated Guided Forklift—demonstrated how AI can optimise warehouse operations and supply chain management, leading to more streamlined business processes, greater efficiencies and better employee welfare.

Andy Zheng, general manager of Lenovo Manufacturing Solutions, offered insight into the implementation process for the smart manufacturing solutions, “Our implementation process for smart manufacturing solutions follows a structured approach aimed at helping businesses to fully integrate, transform and maximise the benefits of the technologies. The first step begins with us identifying the customer’s vision, key strategies and current challenges.

“Once the proposal and objectives are aligned, a proof of concept is deployed with the customer to test the proposed solutions and validate ROI. Following this, with the results and learnings from the proof of concept, we will then roll out the full-scale implementation of the solutions.”

At the heart of Lenovo’s AI revolution are its next-generation PCs. The new ThinkPad X1 Carbon and ThinkPad X1 2-in-1 laptops, equipped with the latest Intel Core Ultra processors and Windows 11, are set to transform how working professionals interact with their devices. The machines are built with dedicated AI acceleration support, enabling users to leverage powerful tools such as Copilot in Windows to automate tasks and streamline workflows.

Fostering continuous innovation and sustainability

Recognising the importance of nurturing innovation, Lenovo is extending its AI expertise to support startups. Through partnerships with companies such as Gignite, an AI-powered no-code platform, it hopes to democratise access to AI knowledge for entrepreneurs and small business owners.

On the sustainability front, Lenovo’s commitment to pushing the cause is evident in its Reduced Carbon Transport Service. By offering Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) credits, it is helping businesses reduce their carbon footprint in logistics operations. The initiative not only aligns with global sustainability goals but also helps companies meet increasingly stringent environmental regulations and consumer expectations.
