We hosted a Mastermind event in Singapore to discuss the evolving needs of entrepreneurs today

On August 25, we hosted a roundtable discussion on building agility in business and life, while managing health. And there was no better place for such a conversation than private members’ club 1880 in Singapore.

Taking place over breakfast inside a private room, guests shared openly their stories about matters such as parenthood, leading a company through the global pandemic, and trying to manage it all—their work, their family, and their own health and well-being.

The discussion, which we co-hosted with our partner VisitMonaco, was jointly moderated by Gen.T’s Chong Seow Wei and Ruchdi Hajjar, who started several businesses in Monaco and Singapore, including The Ring Boxing Community and racing event company MonacoGT. Hajjar is also currently a partner at SGMC Capital, a multi-family office.

Guests in attendance came from a variety of industries, including design, fitness, healthcare, agri-tech and sustainable fashion. They were Dean Ho of The N.1 Institute for Health, Raena Lim of Style Theory, Meaghan See of Eco-Business, Jasmine Chong of Lab Studios, Leanne Robers of She Loves Tech, Clement Chia of Offeo, Benjamin Swan of Beco Ventures, Cheryl Wee of Cheryl W and Roy Fong of 9Round Fitness.

One of the topics that guests shared extensively on was how to manage entrepreneurship and being a parent to young children at the same time. For majority of the parents in the room, the most important factor was having a strong support system, whether it be their partner or parents who help to take care of the kids and who also support their professional ambitions.

Hajjar also spoke about the challenges he has had to face as a leader, which opened up the conversation about how leaders can handle a situation where a difficult decision, such as downsizing the workforce, had to be made.

These difficult decisions can take an emotional toll on the people making them, which organically led to some guests speaking out about the need to talk more about the mental health of entrepreneurs.

After two hours of candid sharing, the breakfast concluded on a high note, with many guests continuing their conversation even as they filtered out of the room.
