The Malaysian-British actor is set to star alongside Dakota Johnson in the adaption of Jane Austen's final novel

Henry Golding is set to star in the upcoming Netflix adaptation of Jane Austen's novel, Persuasion, as Mr Elliot, the cousin of the novel's protagonist Anne Elliot, played by Dakota Johnson. The film is directed by acclaimed theatre director Carrie Cracknell, and will be available for streaming on Netflix from July 15, 2022.

What is different about this latest interpretation of Austen's book is how Anne breaks the fourth wall, a performance convention that assumes an imaginary wall separating actors from the audience. She exchanges knowing glances with the camera, similar to the British comedy Fleabag.

Golding, who was the leading man in 2018 hit film Crazy Rich Asians, recently took to Instagram to share the film's trailer where he was seen donning period clothing.

The film also stars American-British actor Cosmo Jarvis as Captain Frederick Wentworth, the love interest of Anne, with a supporting cast featuring Richard E. Grant, Mia McKenna-Bruce and Nikki Amuka-Bird.
