Generation T is Tatler’s platform for extraordinary individuals showing potential to become the leaders of tomorrow. Our mission is to shape Asia’s future by inspiring, connecting and recognising these successful entrepreneurs, professionals and creatives.
We achieve this by honouring their accomplishments in the annual Generation T List—which identifies 50 remarkable talents in Malaysia and a total of 450 across Asia—as well as through exclusive events and enriching content.
Apart from Malaysia, we identify the next generation of leaders in eight regions: Hong Kong, Singapore, the Philippines, China, Taiwan, Thailand and Indonesia.
Nominees need to be under 40 years old to qualify for the Generation T List.
There are no minimum age requirements to make it for the List; our 2017 Generation T Lister Tengku Ahmad Irfan has accomplished a great deal in his chosen field of classical music despite his young age.
To be considered for the list, a nominee needs to have had a significant achievement in the last 18 months.
The Tatler team spent the past year keeping track of those who made the news and buzz throughout the stipulated timeline. We also tapped into our network to ask for recommendations and nominations.
We finally came up with a longlist of 250 names in December 2017, before internally narrowing our nominees selection down to 85 names.
Following this, we gathered nine industry heavyweights with our managing director Florence Fang, to form a special panel we fondly refer to as the Tatler Tribe. The Tatler Tribe plays a big part in helping us identify Malaysia’s next generation of game changers.
Through a customised, streamlined mobile app we created ourselves for the shortlisting process, our panellists were presented with the above 85 names. There, they voted for their favourite top 50 nominees. The aggregated points from these combined votes formed our final 2018 listers.
An important point to note is that Generation T is more than a list; it is a platform that provides professional and intellectual enrichment on entrepreneurship, innovation, creativity and social impact.
Generation T has held 25 events across Asia in the last year, ranging from panel discussions and power lunches to house building projects for impoverished communities. Generation T is also targeting to hold its inaugural Asia summit in 2019, featuring inspirational talks and experiences led by the Generation T community
