The upcoming book is set to provide useful insights and aid sustainability practitioners in making better decisions

Climate change adviser at the Centre for Governance and Political Studies, Dr Renard Siew recently announced that he will be launching his first book in early February. The book, titled Sustainability Analytics Toolkit for Practitioners: Creating Value in the 21st Century, is available for pre-order online.

Siew was inspired to write the book when he saw a market gap in aiding and guiding sustainability practices. “There is growing interest in this field, but most people are stuck at ‘how do I get started exactly?’ he says. “To be honest, there are also not a whole lot of books in this area written from the perspective of Asia.”

Among the takeaways from his book, Siew says that companies often focus on collecting data but need more time to analyse it. He adds that there is a need to move beyond basic sustainability data disclosures to using sustainability analytics in order to provide useful insights and allow for better decisions to be made.

In the book, he also proposes a new set of sustainability ratios to measure success across entities, nations and internationally. These ratios will help to move the needle on environmental and social issues, as well as financials. Lastly, he discusses the need for stronger communication and stakeholder engagement to drive meaningful change.
