Wu

A monastic cocktail haven that captivates with its inimitable blend of refined elegance and minimalistic mixology

Tucked away in a quiet alley off Taipei’s Guangfu South Road, Wu is a bar that thrives on subtlety and restraint. There’s no menu here — only classic cocktails, stripped of ornament and excess, distilled down to their purest form. It’s this simplicity that keeps guests coming back, drawn by the allure of precision and timeless craft.

Founded by Kae Yin, who earned the title of Asia-Pacific Champion and Global Third Place at the Diageo World Class competition at just 25, Wu carries the quiet confidence of mastery. Yin, who also led AHA Saloon to the Asia’s 50 Best Bars list — ranking No.24 in 2019 and No.10 in 2020 — has channelled his expertise into creating a space that celebrates essence over embellishment.

Step inside and the world fades away. A long wooden table anchors the room; timber beams and vintage medicine cabinets set a tone of rustic grace. Vinyl records, CDs, and cassette tapes line the entryway — from Wu Bai and Summer Lei to Ryuichi Sakamoto and Okinawan folk — creating a nostalgic soundscape for lovers of music and mood. Every detail, from the lilies and thistles in handmade ceramic vases to the seasonally changing florals, reflects Yin’s understated sense of elegance.

Wu is more than a bar — it’s a living work of spatial art. Through minimalism and quiet contemplation, Kae Yin redefines how we perceive taste and texture. From design to drink, everything here exudes a quiet magnetism, inviting those who truly appreciate the art of simplicity to return again and again.
