Wooloomooloo

Australian   |   $ $ $ $   |   Tsim Sha Tsui

Located on the harbourside of Tsim Sha Tsui east, Wooloomooloo enjoys a stunning view of the victoria harbour. Unfortunately some parts are blocked by the plants and curbs on the pathway.

Modern steakhouse that features different shades of brown on furniture, wall and decor to boost the cozy vibe. The setting is warm and welcoming yet the chairs tend to be a bit too low for petite Asians.

We were served with bread before the meal start but the bread was cold and hard. Fortunately the olive oil's quality was rather good. Our meal started

with scallop wrapped with bacon with ratatouille. The wrap was barely cooked and the ratatouille was lukewarm and tasted like it was frozen for days. The tuna tartare was much better . Raw tuna was fresh and sliced into small cube. Best to go with creamy avocado and citrus sauce. The dish was served rather cold.

The Beef Wellington came first and it was cooked well. The pastry was baked golden brown. Foie gras, beef tenderloin and mushroom were wrapped in flaky and buttery pastry that were not over seasoned . The rich gravy helps bringing up the favours.

Another main course we had was the signature dish Whole Dover Sole lack seasoning and the fish tasted bland. The capers and butter lemon sauce certainly did not help.

Dessert came promptly after we finished the main course. The sourness and sweetness of the lemon pie was well balanced but it lack a bit of kick from the natural citrus taste. The base of the pie was too hard. Another dessert we had was the chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream. The cake was warm, intense and rich in chocolate flavour. The runny chocolate sauce inside the cake was creamy and rich. This is probably the best dish from our meal.

Extensive wine list that features reds and whites from all over the world but there is a lack of wines that are over $1,000 and the waiter was not familiar with the wine list . When we asked for recommendation, they offered us house wine.

Good service. We were greeted warmly by the waiters and they were efficient and attentive. The waiters could be more knowledgeable about their food.

A 3 courses dinner for two with drinks came around $2,000, which is not outrageously expensive for a steak meal but it is a bit pricy for the mediocre standard of food.

Must Try

  • Whole Dover sole meunière
