In a market crowded with steakhouses, Wakanui, with its stellar selection of Ocean Beef and Wakanui Spring Lamb from the Canterbury region in the South Island of New Zealand, has a faithful following of its refined and no-frills dining approach. As Japanese Wagyu becomes increasingly accessible, Wakanui’s repertoire of premium single-origin beef and lamb cooked over binchotan set a high bar that few can match in selection and ageing methods (up to 21 days). This is complemented by a very budget friendly wine list. For pescatarians, the menu has familiar favourites like lobster bisque and other crowd- pleasing seafood appetisers. For an offshoot of a restaurant that originated in Tokyo, the restaurant has maintained its high standards under the watchful eyes of Japanese head chef Ryohei Kenyoshi.
