Uncle Quek

Southeast Asian   |   $ $ $ $   |   Central, Hong Kong

A relaxed Straits-inspired eatery where chef Barry Quek channels the flavours of Southeast Asia into generous, nostalgic dishes

Some restaurants are built on technique. Uncle Quek is built on memory. Tucked within the Solstice Culinary Space, the casual dining room is chef Barry Quek’s affectionate tribute to the flavours he grew up with: Singaporean hawker staples, family recipes and the wider culinary patchwork of Southeast Asia. Quek, best known in Hong Kong for Whey, leans here into a more relaxed mood. Hokkien mee, sambal lobster bánh mì and cereal fried chicken capture the sort of bold, satisfying flavours found across Singapore and Malaysia, presented with just enough finesse to lift them beyond the everyday. The menu shifts easily between quick lunches, casual dinners and grazing sessions with friends. Prices remain refreshingly accessible, making it the sort of place you return to often.
