The SG Club
A three-in-one cocktail concept by award winning bartender Shingo Gokan, modelled after the Tokugawa shogunate era
The SG Club represents the homecoming of Shingo Gokan, a former world champion in the prestigious Bacardi Legacy cocktail competition, who made his name in New York and also owns bars in Shanghai and Hong Kong. The bar is themed around the end of the Tokugawa shogunate; Gokan was inspired by reading about samurais who travelled to United States as part of the first Japanese diplomatic mission to that country in 1860, and imagined what it would look like if they opened a bar after that. The bar has two concepts: the basement, Sip, offers a Japanese-style quiet ambience, allowing guests to focus on the cocktails; while the first floor is the more boisterous Guzzle. The latter serves an elevated version of the casual Izakaya drink Oolong Hai, using cold-brewed Taiwanese oolong tea.
Tatler Tip
A stone’s throw away is SG Low, a sister concept drawing inspiration from a casual izakaya with a twist. Think ramen-inspired potato salad adorned with naruto fishcakes and boiled eggs.
