The Bellwood

Tokyo, Japan

A vintage cocktail time capsule that doubles as a four-seater kaiseki omakase restaurant

The Bellwood’s décor recalls the Taisho era of a century ago, the time when a culture of cocktail appreciation first started to appear in Japan. It’s the brainchild of mixologist Atsushi Suzuki, a global winner of the Chivas Masters cocktail competition who previously worked in New York and Shanghai, and gets its name from a direct translation of his family name. It serves drinks themed according to traditional kaiseki categories, alongside food throughout the day inspired by yoshoku Japanese interpretations of western cuisine. Alongside the bar area, there’s also a hidden sushi counter with just four seats, which offers special cocktail pairings. Next door, sister ramen izakaya BW Cave offers a radically different bar experience.

Tatler Tip

The special house ramen makes for a soothing addition to the night's revelry but bear in mind that it is only available two hours before closing.
