Ted's Lookout

We had our doubts about Ted’s Lookout, a bar on the corner of Moon Street in Wan Chai, fearing that it was just another hipster hangout, blindly adopting all the industrial chic and tongue-in-cheek décor of a bar you would find in the East Village. Fortunately, we were mistaken, for Ted’s Lookout offers something that is increasingly rare to find in Hong Kong: a bar that has true conviviality, and the feeling of being a lot of people’s local. It helps that one of the founders (there are three, and together their initials make up TED) is usually around. The open bar and kitchen gives the small space an element of openness, but be warned that your clothes will smell of fried food. Speaking of food, we tried two types of tacos (chorizo, which because of the minced meat, gave it a bit of the college cafeteria feel) and fish (too much batter, too little condiments). We fell in love, however, with the sliders, which comes with three different types of cheese and were possibly some of the juiciest we’ve ever had. Wash it all down with the extensive list of cocktails: we started with the tart Breakfast Daiquiri to whet our appetites, before ending with a sweet and delicious Dark and Stormy.
