The art of kaiseki presented with fresh seasonal ingredients and artful presentation

A spot of calm in the busy IFC Mall, Shikigiku (formerly Inagiku) is the place to go for fine Japanese cuisine served against the glittering Hong Kong skyline. Inside the main dining room, decorated in traditional Edo-style artwork, guests can opt to sit window-side or at one of three bars (sushi, teppanyaki or tempura) to watch the skilful chefs in action. Known for its crispy, light-as-air tempura—made with a secret sesame oil blend and served with a special green tea salt—Shikigiku’s kaiseki sets offer the most variety, starting with dainty appetisers and fresh cuts of sashimi before moving on to hot tempura, sizzling teppanyaki, rice or udon, and a seasonal dessert. Every dish comes photo-ready and is lit up by strategically placed spotlights over the tables. The dark and intimate setting makes Shikigiku perfect for romantic nights out, while the four private dining rooms (each with their own teppanyaki counters) are great for bigger groups.

What to order

  • The prawn tempura is fried to perfection with a light and crispy batter, with the legs served separately for extra crunch.
  • Silky soft and flavourful, the grilled cod fish with miso is served in a generous portion that’s extra satisfying.
  • Glistening with sweet, caramelised unagi sauce, the unagi don was covered in tender pieces of perfectly grilled eel over a bed of steamed rice.

Tatler Tip

Shikigiku serves a seasonal high tea set with a unique assortment of sweet and savoury items, such as sushi, miso cod, uni tofu, melon cream roll and Japanese-style scones.
