Punch Room Tokyo
A dark, elegant hideaway in Ginza where London’s clubland heritage meets Japanese craftsmanship
In the softly lit mezzanine of The Tokyo Edition, Ginza, Punch Room Tokyo feels like a portal between centuries. Conceived by Ian Schrager’s Edition brand and brought to life here by Yasuhiro Kawakubo, the bar borrows its DNA from 19th-century London clubs but speaks fluently in Japanese.
The current menu, Wonderland Vol 2, explores Japan through five historical lenses, blending the classic pillars of punch—spirit, spice, citrus, tea and sugar—with regional ingredients and stories. The Bamboo Katana Martini gives the classic vodka martini a Japanese twist with Haku, sherry and kumazasacha (Veitch's bamboo tea); the Kappa & Yuzu highball pays whimsical tribute to folklore with doburoku sake and cucumber; while the Korakuen & Matcha – Old Fashioned folds in tea ceremony reverence and peach sweetness.
The mood is hushed and cinematic: coffered walnut walls by Kengo Kuma, jewel-toned upholstery, and a discreet hum of conversation under sculpted light. It’s not a place for speed or spectacle, but for ritual, where punch returns to its communal roots, distilled through Japanese grace.
