Enjoy a drink in Hong Kong from the top of the city’s tallest building – acrophobes need not apply

Tatler Says

Ozone’s claim to fame is that it’s the highest bar in the world. Its setting, almost half a kilometre above sea level on the 118th floor of ICC, is certainly a draw with its panoramic vistas to Hong Kong Island and beyond. The bar is so high up that, on cloudy days, it is almost lost. And when you look past the view – or just can't see anything – is it really worth a visit? The venue is decked out with the feel of a club and there is an outdoor terrace. Early in the evening, lounge music provides the soundtrack for a more relaxed vibe, with DJs coming to the fore later to play to an eclectic crowd of tourists, hotel guests and after-work drinkers. An extensive menu comprises a wide range of spirits and a reasonable wine list, with Asian tapas and Japanese specialities to snack on. There is mixology in full force, such as the “Basilic” with gin, fresh basil, green apple, lemongrass, yuzu and basil foam – a refreshing concoction with a great kick of basil but an overpowering sweetness. The “Watermelon” of salted caramel vodka, watermelon juice, vanilla, lime and prosecco also tastes overly sugary. There are plenty more options to choose from, though prices are almost high as the bar's setting – expect to pay at least HK$400 for two cocktails. Go for the view, but if it's cloudy outside, it's on the borderline as to whether the bar alone cuts it.
