Authentic, addictive Sichuan dishes with plenty of spice and an impressive, interactive noodle bar with master chefs on display
If you’re looking to cool down from the casino floor action, we recommend you look elsewhere. But if it’s bold, fiery and numbingly spicy flavours and sensations that you’re after, then definitely head North. Home to a range of traditional Sichuan and Dongbei dishes, this spacious, definitively red dining room is a favourite among locals and tourists alike, and is packed with diners who crave the addictive burn of Sichuan spices on any given night. The star of the show is the poached fish fillet in spicy pickled vegetable broth—the mandarin fish was cooked just right, and the thick, chewy potato noodles left us unashamedly “fishing” with our chopsticks in the hopes of finding more. Fortunately, our longing for noodles was satiated with the nutty dandan mian. Indeed, noodles are a big draw here, with the noodle bar and its accompanying performances taking pride of place in the centre of the restaurant; choose from traditional la mian, flying dagger noodles, Tejin noodles or pulled noodles in a pork bone, beef bone or spicy mala broth. The language barrier proved to be an issue with some of the staff, but the service was always attentive and friendly.
Tatler Tip
