Yenn Wong’s second Thai establishment delivers rich colours and vibrant flavours in a hidden corner of the Landmark
While it appears as a simple takeaway stand, Mak Mak’s secrets dining room is actually revealed behind a subtle sliding door. The interior has a stylish touch with vintage Thai knick-knacks throughout, although it is rather dimly lit. The restaurant excels with its variety of classic Thai dishes, particularly curries and stir-fries that are consistently high quality. Some offerings are stylishly presented, such as traditional hot and sour soup served warmed up on a tiny stove, or quick fried dishes served on colourful crockery. Look for rich mains such as green curries or crispy soft shell crab with yellow curry sauce and egg, the latter adding a creamy texture that complements the seafood. Desserts are popular here, from contemporary creations to classic mango sticky rice and coconut cream, all well executed. Beverages vary in quality despite some creative cocktail selections are available. Sunday brunches are also widely popular despite its business district location, and bookings are recommended.
