La Loca Maria

Mumbai, India

A lively restaurant with elaborate interiors and a menu populated with Spanish comfort plates

Dinner service at La Loca Maria feels like dining at a sprawling Spanish mansion on the Iberian Peninsula. The space is dimly lit by lavish, cascading chandeliers suspended over tables; wicker and wooden furnishings fill the space while the ceiling, hand-painted with floral patterns, heraldic motifs and scenes of Spanish life, adds to the charm. At the helm is Manuel Olveira, the Toledo-born Spanish chef-owner behind La Loca Maria’s comfort fare, delivered with an elevated touch. Ham croquettes are served with roasted pepper sauce; slow-cooked pork belly comes with sweet potato, jalapeños and crispy onions; and a chicken and wild mushroom paella is reduced in a red wine broth so rich it dyes the bomba rice a deep, crimson red. The cocktail menu takes a page out of local food culture, featuring the likes of tequila-based Mango Daisy and passion fruit-based Me Llama Maracuya.
