Behind the doors of a stately old colonial home in Cikini lies the quiet creativity of Chef Vallian Gunawan, who brings Kindling to life as a warm, convivial dining space—more akin to hosting dear friends than formal fine dining. Set within the former private residence of Lily Kasoem, daughter of a pioneering figure in Indonesia’s optical industry, the early 20th-century building has been thoughtfully restored with deep respect for its original architectural details. Guests are invited to savour an Asian-inspired tasting menu rooted in French culinary technique, served across three distinct rooms—each offering an experience that feels intimate rather than intimidating. Signature dishes such as the Crab Custard with bafun uni and crab roe sauce, and the Paofan with spiny sand lobster, fish maw, and ginkgo nuts, stand out as memorable highlights.
