Kaum at Potato Head

Indonesian   |   $ $ $ $   |   Western District

Through the extensive use of spice blends and fresh herbs, the Indonesian restaurant within Potato Head Hong Kong excels in flavours with more polish needed on setting and service

When the shores of Bali seem a little out of reach, you’d do worse than
to book a table at this Sai Ying Pun hotspot—the first Hong Kong outpost
of Potato Head, the famed beach institution known the world over for its tropical, hipsterfied appeal. Kaum is the restaurant located inside this particular lifestyle arena that also includes a hidden music bar out back and a lounge bar in the front. ‘Kaum’ is the Indonesian word for ‘clan’, and the menu pays homage to the archipelago’s diverse culinary traditions—the list of sambals alone is worth exploration, from the brininess of the sambal ikan asin with its salted fish, to the sambal kluwek which makes use of an almost chocolatey roasted black nut. Ternate island’s answer to ceviche comes
in the form of gohu ikan tuna, showcasing fresh fish marinated in virgin coconut oil, lime and pomelo, served with toasted kenari nuts. Come here for flavours you’ll not easily find elsewhere, and stay for the chilled vibes and potent yet very drinkable cocktails.
