Chefs from Shangri-La Bosphorus, Istanbul, bring their country’s cuisine to the shores of the Philippines.
Makati Shangri-La Manila’s Circles Event Cafe has brought in chefs Harun Imre and Ramazan Edrem from Shangri-La Bosphorus, Istanbul, to provide guests with authentic Turkish flavours. This Mediterranean cuisine is known for its generous use of spices such as paprika, oregano, parsley, cumin, pepper, and mint for dishes that include lamb, beef, chicken, eggplants, and lentils.

The exotic culinary flair had been the result of Turkey’s position in trade between Europe and Asia since 1299 during the Ottoman empire founded by Oghuz Turks under Osman Bey. Various spices encouraged chefs of that era to use them for preparing their dishes. Neighbouring countries that consumed filo and nuts had also influenced their pastries. The rampant growth of olive trees in the country has allowed the abundant use of olive oil on its meals.
Starting on August 1, the two skilful chefs of Shangri-La Bosphorus, Istanbul, will let palates relish the exquisite Turkish aroma using ingredients from their country.
To ignite the appetite are hummus, montabel, spicy tomato marmalade, and eggplant salad.Guests can take pleasure on dishes such as steamed garoupa on olive oil with mixed vegetables; sautéed chicken in Turkish spices; shish kebbab of chicken with halumi and lamb with pistachio and fish; and fried calamari with yoghurt dressing. A list of desserts comprises of the flavourful baklava, kunafa, Turkish delight, and dates with pistachio and marzipan.
Guests can sign up for an exclusive cooking class on August 8, where guest chef Imre and Edrem will share their preparation and cooking skills. The cooking demo is priced at 2,500 pesos which includes lunch buffet at Circles Event Café, a certificate and a recipe card. Limited seats are available; hence, reservations are highly encouraged. Treasures of Turkey’s lunch buffet is priced at 1,670 pesos net from Monday to Saturday and Php 2,026 net on Sunday while dinner buffet is priced at Php 2,008 net from Sunday to Thursday and 2,272 pesos from Friday to Saturday.
