Gong-Gan

Seoul, South Korea

Tradition and modernity meet under a hanok roof, where cocktails draw on Korean culture, cinema and memory, with balance as their creed

Hidden in the winding backstreets of Jongno, Gong-Gan, meaning “space” in Korean, is a reflection of Seoul itself: layered, introspective, and quietly magnetic. Founded by Evan Noh and Willy Park, both veterans of Charles H and Alice Cheongdam, the bar reinterprets Korean culture through a modern lens, drawing inspiration from film, food and folklore while never tipping into kitsch.

The drinks are narrative-driven yet subtle. The Leto, with its popcorn-infused vodka and Korean pear shrub, evokes both street snack and cinema. The Old Village, steeped in quince and mugwort, channels the herbal depth of an aged spirit house. The Azalea blooms with honeyed gin and effervescence, a toast to spring reborn. Each cocktail is paired with a small bite crafted from the ingredients’ remnants, a quiet gesture toward sustainability and circular craft.

Designed by Live Me, the bar’s interiors reinterpret the hanok with reclaimed wood ceilings, grey lime-plaster walls and a luminous courtyard that catches the shifting sky. As daylight fades, Gong Gan becomes what its name promises, a space suspended between tradition and tomorrow.

Tatler Tip
