Golden Gip

$ $ $ $   |   Central, Hong Kong

A playful spin on Hong Kong’s dai pai dong spirit, where Asian flavours are given a distinct Korean twist.

Golden Gip doesn’t try to tidy up its influences. The kitchen leans happily into the chaos. Korean flavours rubbing shoulders with Cantonese comfort food, the occasional French flourish sneaking in for good measure. It’s the sort of place where dishes land on the table with a grin rather than a lecture. The cooking comes from the team behind Censu, with head chef Nigel Kim steering the kitchen. Small plates including ‘Not your normal burrata’ arrives dressed in a punchy “strange flavour” sauce with kombu-cured tomatoes, while kimchi cheung fun folds Hong Kong rice rolls together with XO sauce and fermented spice. Larger plates are just as mischievous. The provocatively named ‘fxxcking peace out mapo tofu’ comes with fresh crab, steamed egg and chewy tteokbokki. The room mirrors the menu’s energy. Red neon lighting and fun artwork give the space the feeling of a late-night hangout.

Tatler Tip

From Monday to Thursday, Golden Gip runs an all-you-can-eat feast with two options: steak, seafood udon and bottomless kimchi fries, or soy-marinated crab, japchae (Korean noodles) and unlimited Japanese curry fried chicken.
