From traditional and custard mooncakes to more creative varieties, these are the most exclusive Mid-Autumn Festival treats to reserve this summer
It is never too early to discuss mooncakes. Typically in Hong Kong, talk of mooncakes soon begins following Tuen Ng Festival, aka the Dragon Boat Festival, even while the summery heat remains and Mid-Autumn Festival is months away. Still, it hasn’t stopped mooncake purveyors from kickstarting their early bird mooncake offers as early as July. Here is everything you need to know about Hong Kong’s most exclusive hotel luxury mooncakes and which ones to reserve in advance.
Four Seasons Hong Kong
Lung King Heen at Four Seasons Hong Kong is launching a new collection of mid-autumn delights this year, featuring a selection of mooncakes realised by the restaurant’s chef Chan Yan-Tak, including Chinese dates with walnut mooncakes, this year’s new flavour. Celebrated for its nourishing and nutritious benefits, Chinese dates give a unique sweetness and a gelatinous texture to the filling while walnuts add crunch. The new flavour joins Four Seasons’ other flavoured mooncakes such as cream custard with toasted pine nuts; preserved eggs with pickled ginger; and lotus seed paste with salted egg yolks and black truffles. The mooncakes are available in packages of six miniature mooncakes from the hotel’s online shop and ready for pick up from August 17 to October 1, 2020 at the hotel lobby's festive desk. Prices range HK$530 to HK$560 per box.
