1. Element Hotel Kuala Lumpur

Art, pastries and tea becomes an imaginative edible cansas on the weekends at Element Hotel, resulting in a one a one-of-a-kind high tea experience called "Arteastry". Watch as a chef decorates your table with chocolates, savoury macarons, scones and more before you dig in. Priced at RM128 nett for two, the hotel's afternoon tea offer is available on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays from 1pm to 5pm.

2. The Ritz-Carlton Kuala Lumpur

Indulge in over 40 luxury teas, including a unique blend by German tea makers Ronnefeldt made specifically for the hotel, and an array of classic finger sandwiches, tarts and scones to go alongside a live musical performance at The Ritz-Carlton's lobby lounge. Priced at RM75 per person, the hotel's afternoon tea is available daily from 3pm to 6pm.

3. Mandarin Oriental Kuala Lumpur

Lounge on the Park, Mandarin Oriental KL, specialises in afternoon tea, so you can be sure that you'll have a top notch experience. Available daily from 2:30pm to 6pm, the hotel's afternoon tea set is priced at RM148 nett per person. Enjoy a selection of delicate finger sandwiches, warm scones served with jam, clotted cream and orange marmalade, as well as a platter of miniature cakes, tartlets, macaroons and more. Remember, don't forget to also uphold your tea etiquette.

 

4. Ladurée Malaysia

Parisian macaron legends Ladurée recently opened in Malaysia, bringing with them a quaint French touch when it comes to having tea at this patisserie. Afternoon tea takes a different twist here, only available daily in limited quantities, featuring croissants, macarons, chocolate fingers, french toast and a main course for two priced at RM120 nett.

 

5. The Four Seasons Hotel Kuala Lumpur

The Lounge at The Four Seasons, an all-day dining venue, serves afternoon tea in addition to breakfast, lunch, dinner and supper. The warm scones come with Devonshire clotted cream and Lescure Butter, which happens to be the best butter you can buy from Malaysian supermarkets. Sweet offerings are quirky; take the 'Chocolate Like A Snickers Bar' and 'Sarawakian Pineapple with Black Pepper' for example. Reservations are recommended for the tea time slots, which take place from 2.30-5.30pm daily.

6. Tea Lounge At The Majestic Hotel Kuala Lumpur

One of the most popular spots for high tea in town, The Majestic Hotel offers a colonial twist and a variety of options from 3 to 6pm. Relax at the Tea Lounge (first come first, RM60 on weekdays and RM70 on weekends); the Colonial Cafe (suitable for diners with children, RM60 on weekdays, RM70 on weekends); or enjoy a bit more privacy in the drawing room (RM80 on weekdays and RM90 on weekends). 

If you'd like to have your afternoon tea surrounded by nature, reserve a table inside The Orchid Conservatory (priced at RM110 on weekdays and RM120 on weekends). Do bring a light cardigan or jacket, as the air conditioning was quite strong during out visit; this is to ensure the beautiful orchids stay in tip-top form.

7. Common Man Coffee Roasters

Although known for their coffee, cafe Common Man Coffee Roasters has introduced a high tea set that deviates away from the ubiquitous English version. This set for two comes with tea, coffee, or a free flow of batch brew for RM65++, netting you an assortment of pastries and savoury treats such as lychee coconut cheesecake, profiteroles, mini bagels and more. Available every Thursday and Friday from 2:30pm to 5:30pm, reservations are necessary.

8. TWG

Tea specialists TWG takes on tea time with an assortment of set menus made for both the individual and small groups. If you're by yourself, the "1837" set menu priced at RM28.50+ will get you a teapot of TWG Tea of your choice, along with a choice of 2 scones or muffins that come with tea jelly, whipped cream and one patisserie. If you're in a group, go for the "chic" or "fortune" sets, for RM48+ and RM55+ respectively, which comes with a large assortment of pastries, savoury items and the whole works, with the option to go vegetarian. These sets are available from 2pm to 6pm daily.

9. Delectable by Su

Occupying a spot over at Glasshouse@Seputeh, Delectable's headquarters offer a hearty afternoon tea for two available on the weekdays from 10am to 6pm and the weekends at 10am to 11pm. Priced at RM85, the "delectable signature high tea for 2" includes enough items to keep you full until a late dinner. From mini edible terrariums to floral cupcakes and mini burger sliders, there's a bit of savoury and sweet for any couple to enjoy.

10. InterContinental Kuala Lumpur

Called the "secret garden high tea" over at InterContinental Kuala Lumpur's OneSixFive bar lounge, this decadent tea set is available daily from 2pm to 5pm at RM142 nett for two persons. Besides a selection of TWG tea, coffee, smoked salmon bites, scones and an array of sweets to occupy you, guests can choose to luxe it up with a glass of champagne at an additional RM85 nett per person or go with a mocktail for RM33 nett per person.

11. Nobu Kuala Lumpur

Go Japanese for your afternoon tea instead, swapping fancy gardens and hotel lounges for an oriental den that comes with an impressive view of the city. Available only on the weekends from 1pm to 4pm, Nobu KL offers two sets, one catering towards the savoury crowd, called "hanami" and priced at RM148, and the other towards the sweet side, called "signature high tea set" and priced at RM98.

Spend your afternoon at The Drawing Room, The St Regis Kuala Lumpur, for a fancy pick me up. There's an on-site tea sommelier to help you find your ideal brew, which is also refillable, a selection of exquisitely made pastries and finger foods and plenty of artwork to keep the conversation going. The tea set costs RM130 nett per person from Mondays to Fridays at 3pm to 6pm, while the weekends will have two time slots, with the first slot beginning at 2pm to 4pm and the second from 4:30pm to 6:30pm.

13. Hotel Stripes Kuala Lumpur

Brasserie 25 at Hotel Stripes has introduced an Eastern-themed afternoon tea revolving around the humble bao. Enjoy a bottomless flow of the Chinese-style buns at #BaoTeaFul every Saturday and Sunday from 3pm to 6pm. Every pair of diners pays RM98 only. Sweet treats and other nibbles inspired by Japanese, Korean and Western cuisine will also be available.

14. Shangri-La Hotel Kuala Lumpur

Live music by Arch Quartet, a four-piece instrumental band, elevates afternoon tea at the Shangri-La Hotel Kuala Lumpur to unparalleled heights on Sundays. This legacy hotel offers classic and uncommon treats such as buttery scones and an edible KL Tower wrought from chocolate. Available at the lobby lounge daily from 3pm to 6pm daily, the indulgent set costs RM320 or RM190 for two pax, with or without two glasses of Prosecco champagne. Fun fact: Shangri-La's experienced pastry chef was once in charge of concocting Business Class meals for Emirates.

Two high tea sets for two are now available at Dome Café, with the English set featuring classic favourites and the Malaysian version opting for a more local flavour route. Both are priced at RM59+ and are available all day long at the following outlets: Bangsar Shopping Centre, Genting Highlands Premium Outlets, Sky Avenue and Bintang Circle Pavilion KL.

16. Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur

Go high (pun intended) for your tea at Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur's THIRTY8 restaurant-cum-bar-cum-lounge with two sets, one for the weekdays and another only on the weekends and during public holidays. The weekdays will see the establishment serving a 3-tier afternoon tea set, available from 3pm to 5pm at the price of RM90 nett per person, focusing on providing the quintessential British experience. Come weekends, THIRTY8 will serve a High On Sugar" afternoon tea set, available 12pm to 5pm at RM160 nett per person, serving a smorgasbord of high tea treats modernised and made to excite.

17. Newens Tea House

A 300-year-old legacy comes with this tea house, fittingly decorated for a classic afternoon tea experience over at Starhill Gallery. Newens' serves an afternoon tea set good for 2 pax everyday from 2:30pm to 5:30pm at RM140 nett, serving their signature maid of honour tarts, sandwiches, scones and french pastries to go alongside a list of quality teas for you to choose from.

 

18. Sheraton Imperial Kuala Lumpur

Pavilions Lounge at Sheraton Imperial Kuala Lumpur also offers a "classic afternoon tea experience" set daily from 2pm to 5pm, charging RM84 nett for adults and RM42 nett for children aged between 9 to 12. Guests will receive a three tiered selection of delectables to go alongside their choice of TWG teas, but will also have the chance to enjoy hot food items such as crab cakes, quiche, sandwiches and a selection of French sweets and pastries at the lounge.

19. Brasserie Fritz

Right in the heart of Bukit Bintang, Brasserie Fritz is now serving afternoon tea from 3-6pm, offering a selection of sandwiches and sweets. Priced at RM55++ person, you'll get at least four types of sandwiches and sweets, going from flavours like prawn, salted egg cream cheese and cucumber to go alongside peanut butter baby berliners. 

20. The RuMa Hotel

Three factors that guarantee a terrific afternoon tea are: 1) tasty pickings, 2) picturesque environs, and 3) pleasant company. The RuMa Hotel and Residences provides the first two, but the third category wholly depends on your contact list. Pair calamansi meringue tartelettes with loose leaf tea at the Librari while thumbing through vintage print material salvaged from your local flea market and antique shop for RM115 nett from 3-5.30pm daily.

21. Sofitel Kuala Lumpur Damansara

Merging the arts with afternoon tea, the Taste of Gold Afternoon tea created by pastry chef Guillaume Destouches sees treats such as salmon stuffed in crisp bread and red velvet cake sandwiched between thin white chocolate. Of all the TWG teas, our favourite is the heady and aromatic vanilla bourbon tea.
 
Priced at RM128 for two pax, the spread is available daily from 15 July until 14 August 2019.
