Signing up for TAF Meals (pronounced "tough" meals) might be the most practical thing you do for your health this year

In September 2019, Instagram made a public announcement that ruffled some feathers: the app's new algorithm would soon block teenage users from seeing weight-loss ads. Reactions were mixed, but the need for 'filtering' can only be blamed on a growing amount of misleading information propagating myths surrounding weight loss. When such medical quackery fails, as it inevitable will, the consumer is often left to wallow in low self-esteem.

Anxious to do right by their customers, TAF Meals has been practising transparency since day one. Platform Hospitality Group, TAF Meals's parent company, even removed words such as 'trim' and 'fit' in their branding so as not to mislead their followers into believing in overnight fixes.

TAF Meals stands for the big picture: it promotes a well-rounded lifestyle that includes cultivating nutritious eating habits, which in turn, may give you more energy to develop a consistent fitness regime.

"I'm here to give you some good news," begins dietician and nutritionist Adele Wong's optimistic message at the virtual launch of TAF Meals. "You don’t have to go to extreme lengths to lose weight. Wong, who had a hand in developing TAF Meals's dishes, debunks common misconceptions surrounding diet, food, health and weight loss and stresses the importance of taking an educated and informed approach towards nutrition. According to her, "At the end of the day, any diet that creates a calorie deficit will work, but most diets fail because they're too hard or simply not sustainable."

Cue the TAF Meals model, which isn't just low in calories (a day's worth of meals are built around 1500 to 1700 calories), but also high in nutrients. See below for why it gets our thumbs up:

What We Love

  • The clean packaging design and clearly labeled macronutrients and ingredients.
  • The 'five a day' schedule (breakfast, mid-morning snack, lunch, mid-afternoon snack and dinner); less sporadic meals reduces the likelihood of binge eating.
  • Freeing up time on our hands that would otherwise be spent hunting down our next meal or cooking.
  • Realising that with the right ingredients, healthy doesn’t have to be flavourless. Take for example, one of the sauces spun out of yogurt and flavoured with Indian spices.
