Come Sunday, there are few things more inviting than the idea of indulging in a relaxing brunch. Asia Tatler rounds up a few palatable prospects

Boathouse

Boathouse-Eggs-benedict.jpg

What: The modern European spread comprises a truly gourmet brunch dished out by chef Jonathan Koh. The escalope of foie gras sweetened by medjool date confit sets the stage for an epicurean experience before the must-have - eggs. Here, the eggs benedict is elevated to new heights with a truffle hollandaise sauce and cured Petuna ocean trout. Over on the drinks menu, The Orchard is one of a kind with a whole stick of cinnamon dipped into an apricot, apple and lemon vodka cocktail. Veuve Clicquot Yellow Label Brut is served free flow with the champagne brunch option.
Ambience: The Art Deco-style heritage building encapsulates a classical and romantic mood. Grab a table by the window for a view of the Singapore River and Marina Bay.
When: Sunday, 11am to 3pm
The Waterboat House, #03-01, 3 Fullerton Road. Tel: 6538 9038

Level 33

Sunday-Brunches-July.jpg

What: Called the Sunday Roast, this English menu is a refreshing alternative to French-inspired ones, being made up of hearty selections. The All Day Breakfast includes two spiced Butchers' sausages, a sunny side up egg in a mini shallow pan, crisp bacon, baked vine tomato and forest mushrooms. Also, try the Baked Scottish salmon in puff pastry on saffron sauce. If you bring a child along, the Fish and Chips that consists of a tempura of black cod and the trio of gelato with refreshing flavours are must-tries. Adults can opt for Dates, a sticky date pudding with bourbon infused caramel and praline ice cream. This being a craft-brewery restaurant, be sure to try their beers. On the menu are robust seasonal beers, but the all-time favourite, especially for ladies, is the light 33.1 blond lager.
Ambience: A modern penthouse restaurant with a clean layout that is highlighted by huge brewery facilities and a view of the cityscape all around. The Singapore Flyer, Marina Bay Sands and the entire marina bay are in view anywhere in this restaurant, but nothing beats a window seat, or al fresco dining.
When: Sunday, 12pm to 5.30pm
8 Marina Boulevard, #33-01, Marina Bay Financial Centre Tower 1. Tel: 6834 3133

The Terrace

Terrace-Sunday-Brunch-72.jpg

What: Seafood such as freshly-shucked oysters and mussels; as well as slipper lobsters, steaks and tandoori meats cooked a la minute at the sizzling outdoor barbecue station. Also, look out for the pan-fried foie gras prepared and served with red wine jus when you order. Sunday brunch comes with a free flow of Duval-Leroy champagne.

Ambience: With both a comfy air-conditioned indoor setting and an airy al fresco sitting area by the cliff, the champagne Sunday brunch at The Terrace is a great city escape. If it's not too warm, sit outdoors at one of the tables with a pool view, especially if your children are here to enjoy the kids' buffet and complimentary swimming pool usage
When: Sunday, 12pm to 3pm
The Sentosa Resort & Spa, 2 Bukit Manis Road Sentosa. Tel: 6371 1414

The Disgruntled Chef

Disgruntled-Chef-Eggs-Cocotte.jpg

What: European dishes are served in a contemporary a la carte brunch menu communal style, so it's best to go with a few dining companions to taste more dishes. Favourites include the baked eggs cocotte that arrives piping hot in a tiny pot with half boiled eggs, sautéed mushrooms and truffle sauce served with brioche soldiers for dipping. The miniature shepherd's pie is also an ingenious variation with secret spices such as star anise for additional nuances. They make a mean cocktail too - try the Green Queen comprising gin, midori, calamansi and fresh passionfruit
Ambience: This little grey 'house' oozes a chill-out vibe, and there are seats at the bar for those who are dropping in for a quick bite or drinks. Try to get a corner table, as the chatter of the crowd can get a tad loud.
When: Sunday, from 12pm to 5pm
26B Dempsey Road. Tel: 6476 5305

Barnacles

Barnacles-Hot-and-Cold-Seafood-Platter.jpg

What: A wide array of options including Chinese and Indian-style cooked foods and an à la minute grill, but the must-haves are the fresh raw seafood, which includes spiny rock lobsters and seasonal live oysters. Eat them on their own, or with interesting complementary sauces such as red wine vinaigrette, dill mayo and sweet chilli mayonnaise. Complete the experience with a Rasa Cooler mocktail, which is made with mango, pineapple and pink guava juice
Ambience: An underwater theme predominates in this seaside restaurant, recently renovated as part of the resort's $80-million makeover. Balloon sculpting and face-painting from 1pm onwards makes this ideal for families with young children. Have your meal al fresco by the beach, under the shade of the large tree outdoors
When: Sunday, 12pm to 3pm
Shangri-La's Rasa Sentosa Resort, 101 Siloso Road. Tel: 6371 1974

1-Caramel

1-Caramel-Assiette.jpg

What: Predominantly French fare with German sausages and a pizza added for variety. Try the traditional eggs benedict, or the smoked salmon tart with crème fraiche and ocean trout caviar as well as truffled brie and cherry tomatoes on toasted brioche. Don't forget to save room for dessert - the 1-Caramel Assiette is great for sharing. Sip on a piccolo latte served with 1-Caramel 'gems' (a daily selection of petit fours), or a mixed berries ice blend for a more refreshing option.
Ambience: Bright and breezy with plenty of desserts and cakes at this café, this is a breath of fresh air being set among the greenery at Rochester Park. The seating area on the second floor is a tad tight, so ask to be seated on the ground floor in the private area or tucked away in a corner of their al fresco area.
When: Weekdays, 11.30am to 2.30pm; weekends, 10am to 3pm
Level 2, No. 1 Rochester Park, One Rochester. Tel: 6774 1302

Graze

Graze-Chicken.jpg

What: Casual Sunday favourites are included in the signature cast iron pan with two free-range eggs done to your preference and sides such as roasted vine tomato and mushrooms. The eggs benedict comes with a choice of a generous dollop of melted mortadella cheese, smoked salmon or baby spinach. A whole rotisserie baby spring chicken with thick chips is another favourite here.
Ambience: Stylish and laidback with glass door panels, white tiled interior and woody finishes. Quirky décors such as a row of chairs on the wall and a shelf displaying custom-made plates add a dash of fun. We suggest a window table in the "chairs" room.
When: Saturday and Sunday, 10am to 4pm
38 Martin Road. Tel: (65) 6509 1680

Brasserie Wolf

Brasserie-Wolf-Scrambled-Eggs-Provencal.jpg

What: Traditional homemade French fare, such as a brioche or croissant with chef Claudio Sandri's own strawberry jam. Try the creamy scrambled egg with a juicy Provencal tomato marinated in honey overnight, and topped with sliced garlic or eggs royale served with truffles. A plate of French farmed cheeses including morbier, livarot and fourme d'ambert is great for wine pairing with help from the friendly sommelier, Ernst Heindl. While you're here, try some of the light Austrian wines or old world wines such as Barolo's Cannubi Chiara Boschis.
Ambience: This riverside bistro may come with a fine dining ambience, but it really is a great spot for young families given its new children-centred concept that comes with a kids' menu. There is even a story-telling session so adults can enjoy lunch on their own.
When: Saturday and Sunday, 12pm to 4pm
80 Mohamed Sultan Road, The Pier at Robertson #01-13. Tel: 68357818
