People are looking for healthy food that’s creative but of course, delicious. And that’s what this cozy culinary haven in Quezon City is all about.
Restaurants, bars, and cafés can be found along the stretches of Tomas Morato and Timog Avenues. But there is nothing like Runner’s Kitchen in the area, which serves creative and delectable gastronomic delights for health-conscious diners and those with an active lifestyle.

With the area being few minutes away from the hub of morning and afternoon joggers, cyclists, and other sports enthusiasts as well as health-conscious diners, it is surprising to find that there is a lack of healthy dining options around. And so fashion photographer-cum-cyclist Xander Angeles thought of opening a restaurant that caters comforting dishes with high nutrition value. Runner’s Kitchen, as it was later named, opened in December 2014 with celebrities Bianca King, Glaiza de Castro, and Abby Asistio, among others as part-owners. With King’s passion in creating healthy dining recipes and cooking them by herself for her friends at home, not to mention her background in fitness nutrition and culinary studies, she has breathed life to Angeles’ vision.
Runner’s Kitchen’s rustic interiors and casual dining vibe are complemented with some knicks and knacks that somehow describe the owners’ and dining patrons’ lifestyle. It also takes pride in its menu where everything is healthy and the ingredients are fresh from organic farms like DownToEarth and more. The owners believe that if you want to serve truly healthy food, it’s a combination of wholesome ingredients and healthy cooking methods.

But in contrast to common perception where healthy food is just pure bland, unsatisfying, organic greens, Runner’s Kitchen actually invites guests to savour various culinary selections even meat, pork, and sweets. “Healthy eating also means ‘no’ to depriving yourself. Just learn how to pick healthier choices,” the owners said. “It [Runner’s Kitchen] is a cool space to hang out in and have smoothies, specialty coffees, and guilt-free desserts where people can get creative and zone out alone or bond with friends.”
The restaurant has something for every type of diet—paleo, pescetarian, gluten-free, low carb, vegan, and many more.

Above Spicy Tuna Quinoa Roll
A low carb roll for sushi lovers. Raw sushi-grade tuna, cucumber, mango, sriracha aioli, coconut cream and ginger soy reduction. The spicy tuna quinoa roll hits the sushi spot bursting with fresh flavors minus the carb guilt.

Above Tahini Quinoa Super Bowl
A filling bowl of mushrooms, chickpeas, carrots, bean sprouts, cucumber, lettuce, cashew candy, tomatoes and quinoa tossed in house-made tahini. It’s the combination of raw and cooked veggies plus the thick tahini that elevates this dish making meat eaters accidentally fall in love with something vegan. You do have the option to put any protein you want on top just in case you need meat.

Pan-seared prawns, red radish, crispy basil and spinach with sun-dried tomato yogurt. You have the proteins on their own or you can choose between black rice, roasted sweet potato, quinoa or cauliflower rice to go with your protein. Per protein, the starch is cooked a certain way. For the prawns, your starch of choice is cooked with tomatoes, caramelised onions and mushrooms.

“I normally ask people, ‘what do you spoil yourself with to make you feel better about yourself’ and some answer like shoes, bags, or clothes. Then I tell them that if you want to look and feel good, you could prevent yourself from being sick or being overweight by eating well and taking exercise,” King shared. “It’s actually a self-esteem issue. It’s the aspiration of living a better life that comes along with being healthy that I try to encourage everyone about. It’s not trendy and not expensive. It’s just something you want to do for yourself to be happy.”
