The best way to celebrate Singapore’s 58th birthday is by digging into these locally-inspired treats
National Day fever is in full swing as Singapore has already begun celebrating by pulling out all the stops, from our annual parade to special concerts. However, extravagant fireworks displays and exciting activities are not the only things we can look forward to this month. Chefs are also joining in on the celebrations, dreaming up decadent locally-inspired snacks for the occasion.
From teh tarik cream puffs to chilli crab sandwiches, these snacks are sure to get you into the patriotic spirit. So, if you’re looking to celebrate, it’s best to do so with some of these creations.

1. Baristart Coffee Singapore

Baristart Coffee is honouring Singapore’s 58th birthday with its exclusive teh tarik cream puff. Inspired by the iconic Singaporean beverage, the indulgent dessert sees Baristart’s signature Hokkaido BIEI Jersey milk custard infused with floral Ceylon tea leaves. The thick and creamy custard comes encased in a thin and airy puff. Available from August 9 to 31.

2. Da Paolo Gastronomia
This Italian gourmet deli cafe’s popular gula Melaka coconut pandan bun has returned. These fluffy handmade buns sees aromatic pandan-infused dough layered with desiccated coconut and sweet gula Melaka. The decadent parcels are baked and glazed in a sweet reduction of pandan leaves and smoky gula Melaka. It’s finished with a generous coating of juicy shredded coconut. If you’re looking to cool down from the Singapore heat, try the cafe’s coconut and gula Melaka gelato instead. The scoop offers nutty flavours combined with toffee and caramel notes from the sweet gula Melaka. Available from now until August 31.

3. Lobby Lounge

The Capitol Kempinski Hotel Singapore’s Lobby Lounge is toasting to Singapore’s 58th birthday with a new National Day Afternoon Tea experience. Available from now until August 31, the spread comprises a selection of locally-inspired bite-sized gems. Start at the savouries and dig into the chili crab tartlet, beef satay and prata-wrapped curry chicken. Moving on to desserts, you have the bubble tea pan cotta, pandan fudge cake and kopi profiterole.

4. Eggslut

This popular American egg sandwich joint has teamed up with the iconic Jumbo restaurant to curate an indulgent locally-inspired sandwich. The decadent chilli crab and scrambled egg brioche sandwich comprises Eggslut’s signature fluffy scrambled eggs and Jumbo’s savoury chilli crab sauce mixed with crab meat stuffed between soft brioche buns. Available from now until September 30.

5. Rempapa

The diversity of Singapore’s culinary culture comes together at Rempapa, where chef-partner Damian D’Silva has curated two special snacks from August 7 to 13 celebrating the unique connections between peoples across Singapore’s social fabric. The first, the roti john, dances on the palate with masala spicy chicken, accompanied by onions, peas, cucumbers and shredded lettuce within a bun. The second, the epok epok sayur, possesses traces of Portuguese heritage and bears close resemblance to a curry puff, with a filling of sautéed vegetables, taukwa (firm tofu) and dried shrimp within a shortcrust pastry shell.
