From new Hong Kong-inspired cocktails, a Thai weekend buffet, pop-ups and more, we rounded up what's new on the Hong Kong dining scene this week

As we welcome autumn, the city's dining scene is also gearing up for the upcoming season. With the city slowly opening up, social distancing measures relaxing, we can now enjoy dining out in groups of four for now. Bars have reopened again so we can finally get that much-needed drink.

This week, we've shared news of The Peninsula Hotel's e-cookbook launch, the Chinese restaurant 888 Fatfatfat pop-up and Koffee Mameya first overseas branch at K11 Musea—but there's plenty more happening.

To keep you up to date with everything food and drinks, we're rounding up everything else that you may have missed from the dining scene this week—seasonal drinks, revamped menu, new branch openings, and more.

Mandarin Oriental launches incentive program to encourage diners to exercise

Get your steps in—Cafe Causette at the Mandarin Oriental has launched their Every Step Counts incentive program where diners can save up to 40 per cent off their bill depending on the number of steps they’ve taken. Reach a daily mileage of 10,000 steps to save 10 per cent on the entire bill, while every additional 5,000 steps will save you an extra five per cent.

Guests who reach 40,000 steps on the day of the meal can enjoy a complimentary bottle of champagne. The Every Step Counts program is applicable for two to eight guests per table and can be redeemed during dinner from 1 to 31 October. Guests will have to show a mobile application to prove their daily step count to redeem the offer. 


Mother Pearl introduces seasonal drinks set for Autumn 

Ate too many mooncakes during Mid-Autumn Festival? Plant-based bubble tea spot, Mother Pearl has launched four seasonal drinks for the month of October as part of the Detox and Nourish Autumn Quartet launch to help customers reset their bodies after the Mid-Autumn Festival. 

Introducing PO Mylk Tea, a chai jelly and almond milk-based drink, fruity Citrus Hawthorn, pink coconut water-based Coconut Matcha, and Lychee Rose, all hand-crafted teas are made with natural, organic ingredients and nutritional tapioca balls which help to improve the skin, immune and digestive systems. Petite sizes of these four new drinks will be available as a set on Deliveroo from 1 to 31 October for HK$150. Head over to the store in person to get a free upgrade to regular size. 


Sugar unveils Hong Kong-inspired cocktails 

Sugar, East Hong Kong’s rooftop bar and lounge have launched 10 new Hong Kong-inspired cocktails as part of the bar’s ‘Flavours of Hong Kong’ menu. From the city’s favourite milk rabbit candy, to cha chaan teng beverage staple, Yuen Yeung, and even Haam Yu (Chinese salted fish) inspired tipples, you’ll be able to get a taste of these cocktails from now to March 2021.


Mamma Always Said brings coffee-infused tipples and Aussie flavours to Central 

Bringing Aussie flavours to Hong Kong, Mamma Always Said will be hosting their first-ever themed dinner, ‘At Mamma’s Table’ on Wednesday 14th October. Introducing a five (HK$295) and seven-course (HK$370) menu for the night, executive chef, Corey Riches, will be reinventing nostalgic snacks and cooking up Aussie-inspired recipes such as beer can chicken, chicken para croquette and iced vovo ice cream. 

Aside from the dinner, the restaurant will also be introducing four new coffee-infused cocktails and a classic affogato (HK$55) in collaboration with Mr. Black Roasters & Distillers.

Manna Market pop-up at IFC Lane Crawford 

From now until 5 October, the Manna Market pop-up returns to Lane Crawford at IFC, serving their famous ready-to-eat beef ribs; pandan cake; and canelés. Founded by Tatler friend, Helen Ma, Manna Group does everything from creative solutions, luxury catering to print and packaging. 


The Langham launches In The Pink afternoon tea for Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Partnering with the Hong Kong Breast Cancer Foundation for the third year, Palm Court at The Langham will launch In The Pink afternoon tea from 1 October 1 to 30 November, with a HK$10 donation made to the foundation for every afternoon tea sold during the two-month period. Guests can indulge in savoury sandwiches and sweet treats such as the pomegranate Balik salmon sandwich and Japanese-inspired pinky strawberry roll cake. Palm Court's exclusive afternoon tea set is available from 3:00 pm to 5:30 pm on weekdays, as well as 2:15 pm to 4:15 pm and 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm on weekends and public holidays, The tea set is priced at HK$ 398 for one person and HK$698 for two.


JW Marriott pairs cocktails with perfume in collaboration with Artisenses

Bar Q88 at JW Marriott has teamed up with creative perfume studio, Artisenses to transform your cocktail experience. Pairing five classic cocktails—Whisky Green Tea, Long Island Iced Tea, Gin & Tonic, Pink Vanilla Martini and Mojito, with the perfume house’s line of cocktail-inspired Eau De Toilette, guests will even receive a complimentary bottle of Artisenses Eau De Toilette Cocktail Series when ordering one of the signature cocktails. Guests will also be able to experience the pop-up scent bar every Thursday to Saturday from 5pm to 7:30pm and receive a personalised perfume consultation at the bar. 


The Place launches super supper Thai weekend buffet

Craving for some Thai food?  The Place at Cordis Hong Kong is coming with an array of Thai night market-styled dishes from 25 September to 28 November. The made-to-order salad bar will offer Thai-style yuzu rice vermicelli salad; grilled beef rice vermicelli salad; green papaya salad; and boneless chicken feet salad mixed with homemade Thai sauce. The buffet spread will include popular Thai dishes such as Tom Yum noodle soup, red curry chicken and delights such as Thai butter garlic chicken, Thai basil minced pork fried rice and coconut chicken soup. The Super Supper Thai weekend buffet is available every Friday and Saturday.

DiVino Group invites diners to experience white truffle season without rules

DiVino Group's Spasso, DiVino Patio and DiVino Restaurant & Bar will be serving ‘White Diamond’ truffles under their ‘No Menu, No Limitations, No Rules’ initiative throughout the month of October. The restaurants will offer a white truffle-themed menu, with signature dishes that feature the prized seasonal treat as the main ingredient. Guests are encouraged to be adventurous and experiment with white truffle as they wish. 


Dim Sum Library introduces Thai coconut chicken xiao long bao

Dim Sum Library will be unveiling five new xiao long bao flavours including the tom kha gai; kombu and bonito; beef brisket; bak kut teh;and hot and sour xiao long bao. Each variety of the restaurant's new xiao long baos is priced at HK$72 per basket of three dumplings, with flavours on a rotation, available from now until 6 December. 


The Diplomat unveils a revamped menu of elevated bar food to complement cocktails

The Diplomat by John Nugent introduces an enhanced bar experience of savoury brasserie-style snacks alongside reimagined cocktails. The new pub grub menu, can be enjoyed Monday to Saturdays from 4:00 pm to midnight. The menu recreates familiar and nostalgic flavours complete with innovative cocktail offerings. New additions to the menu include the steak tartare, chicken sandwich a la Louisiane, a suckling pig version of the bar's popular Cubano, and the best-selling The Diplomat burger. 


Black Sheep's Black Series returns next week—for just one week

Black Sheep Restaurants will feature iconic dishes and signature menus for Black Series which will only be available for a week only from 5–14 October. Bookings are available for any of the Black Sheep Restaurant listings and are divided into three categories: premium featuring refined culinary experiences, destination offering transportive, experiential dining, and neighbourhood for everyday eats. Bookings are not required for the everyday category, other reservations can be made here.
