With its 1920s interior and Italian cuisine, The Glass Door adds to the culinary smorgasbord of Fort Bonifacio.

The restaurant is the brainchild of the chef Maj Lazatin, who studied Italian cuisine at Apicius Cooking School in Florence, Italy, and worked at the Michelin-starred restaurant Picasso in the Bellagio Hotel, Las Vegas.

The restaurant’s interiors evoke a bygone age of American ascendance and extravagance. Dimly lit, with its black and white tile flooring, vaunted curtains, and moody ambience, it is reminiscent of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby. Begin your meal with The Glass Door’s sangria, a potent cocktail composed of red wine, brandy, Cointreau, and gin.

For appetizers, the salmon tartar is not to be missed.Therefreshing blend of salmon, lemon, and capers is ensconced in a crisp exterior pastry, which complements the soft texture of the salmon. The dish is garnished with a sprig of dill. Another mouth-watering starter is the spinach ravioli. It is composed of farm-fresh spinach and ricotta cheese in a tart tomato sauce. Lastly, the chicken croquettes provide the perfect counterpoint to the salmon tartar and the spinach ravioli. Each bit- size piece of the savoury starter is made up of chicken, carrots, and celery in a creamy béchamel sauce.

After appetizers, the creamy butternut squash soup offers a flavoursome dish that makes good use of a generous helping of crisp bacon bits and homemade croutons. The hearty and savoury soup reminds you of a homemade recipe that has been passed down through generations. Follow this up with the Caesar salad composed of crisp romaine lettuce with home-made croutons, bacon bits, and Maj's special dressing.

For the pasta, it would be a mistake to miss the tartufo. The rich dish is composed of wild mushrooms enveloped in fragrant white truffle oil. The smooth and vibrant pasta comes with crisp cheese on the side. While the truffle oil’s bold flavours are complemented by the texture of the wild mushrooms, it is the fresh pasta that makes the dish exceptional. Chef Maj Lazatin ensures that the restaurant makes its own fresh pasta. For meat lovers, the succulent Beef Bourguignon is noteworthy. The braised beef belly is served with mushrooms and shallots.

Ultimately, The Glass Door offers to lift the veil of the roaring twenties and experience Gatsby’s life amidst mouth-watering entrees and terrific cocktails. It is an experience you will soon not forget.
