Calling all chocaholics, here are some of our favourite guilty pleasures

Indulgence, pleasure, and temptation all wrapped in a delectable, velvety embrace—that’s the irresistible allure of chocolate. From the ancient Mayans who revered it as the food of the gods to the European explorers who brought it back to their kingdoms, this irresistible treat has traversed continents, leaving a trail of wonder and delight in its wake.

Beyond its sheer deliciousness, chocolate has become a symbol of love, a gesture of appreciation, and a comforting companion during both moments of celebration and solace. In celebration of World Chocolate Day, the Tatler editorial team share our favourite chocolate snacks

Choco Baby

“My chocolate champion is, and always will be, Meiji's Choco Baby! I grew up with my Japanese godmother and she constantly fed me Japanese snacks and chocolates and my absolute favourite has always been Choco Baby.

There was something about the tiny little pellets that were so easy to eat and the box made it convenient to carry around like mints. The only downside about Choco Baby is that I could easily finish a box in less than ten minutes and I'd have to go and buy another one for more.”

Kit Kat

“Kit Kat will always hold a top-tier position in my mind, not only because it serves as a good excuse for taking a break but also due to its ingenious design. When you buy one and unwrap the wrapper, you discover four delightful tinier bars nestled inside. Although your intention may be to share, more often than not, you find yourself relishing every morsel alone—a triumph of gluttony and pure satisfaction.”

Lindt Excellence 99%

“Mainly because this is the darkest chocolate I’ve gotten my hands on, and I prefer unadulterated forms of chocolate—I’d appreciate nuts or sea salt being incorporated into chocolate, but despise any other flavours added into it. On top of it being a healthier option, not many people enjoy that level of dark chocolate, which means more for me!”

–Aaron Pereira, deputy editor

Ferrero Rocher

“My favourite chocolate is Ferrero Rocher because it offers a delightful combination of crunchy, creamy, and chocolaty flavours. I appreciate how the various textures blend seamlessly to create a unique taste experience. The hazelnut shell provides a satisfying crunch, while the creamy filling and smooth chocolate coating round out the flavours.”

Cadbury Boost Bar

“The most appealing thing to me about Cadbury Boost bars were the crumbly biscuit bits at its caramel-covered centre. Biting into the milk chocolate coating and feeling the crunch along with the melty chocolate was always a treat. I believe the bars have been discontinued in Malaysia, so my latest candy bar craze has returned to the Milky Way.”

Snickers

“It’s not exactly my favourite but it's my go-to for a quick chocolaty snack. It has become a habit for me to pack one or two when I travel. Its dense composition of milk chocolate, caramel, and peanuts is a reliable solution to soothe any hunger pangs during a long journey.”

Mint chocolate chip ice cream

“While as polarising as pineapple on pizza, mint chocolate chip ice cream will always be a guilty pleasure of mine. It was my choice of ice cream flavour when I was younger (both because of its taste and its artificial blue-green colour).”

Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups

“Best eaten chilled from the fridge, it’s my go-to snack whenever I needed a quick pick-me-up. Those bite-sized morsels always hit the spot with that delicious combination of salty, peanut butter and chocolate!”

–Elizabeth Soong, managing editor, print

Magnum Almond ice cream

“This is the platonic ideal of an after-dinner dessert at home. The chocolate coating is chocolatey enough, the vanilla ice cream is just the perfect richness and then the almonds give that extra crunch. There’s chocolate, there's crunch and there’s cream: each component lab-tested to perfection. What else can you ask for?”

Ritter Sport’s Marzipan

“Ritter Sport’s Marzipan chocolate is a very rare, if bittersweet, indulgence of mine—growing up, my dad was a frequent jet setter, so once a year, he’d come back from his trips, and duty-free chocolates from the airport were a staple gift.

I rarely ever get them now, but the subtle taste of honeyed almonds and sweet chocolate is a trip down memory lane I look for from time to time.”

Nutella

“I am a big fan of anything and everything Nutella. It is a sweet, sugary spread balanced with the right amount of chocolate and hazelnut; the ideal ratio that makes it acceptable to have on toast for breakfast as an adult.

That said, I sometimes still indulge in spoonfuls of Nutella straight out the jar, like I did when I was a kid, or binge the Nutella products, especially the Nutella B-Ready filled wafers and Nutella&Go breadsticks.”

Maltesers

“Growing up, I was never the biggest fan of chocolates (because enter... the lactose-intolerant child) but I would always make an exception for Maltesers. There’s just something about the malty flavour of these chocolate-covered crunchy treats that just melts in my mouth that gets me.

Delicious, totally addictive, dangerously good, and probably not the greatest for anyone's weight loss program. Not too long ago, Maltesers launched a dark chocolate version which made my heart (and lactose intolerance) sing. Safe to say, there’s no turning back for me.”
