The LMO Freshly Baked concept offers sweet pastries and desserts for takeaway

Right after the opening of the new Bakehouse takeaway in Soho dining district, Landmark Mandarin Oriental Hong Kong has launched its own pastry project—LMO Freshly Baked, a new two-month pop-up at the Landmark serving sweet cakes and pastries baked throughout the day, as well as small takeaway mason jar desserts

It’s not the first time they’ve done it—Amber held its first pastry pop-up back in 2016 where a selection of classic French cakes and tarts were made available. The new pastry pop-up takes a different direction, however, as Richard Ekkebus, culinary director of the Landmark Mandarin Oriental, is sharing his favourite desserts growing up in the southwest of the Netherlands.

The creations are rooted in his sweet childhood memories, with Ekkebus trying to recreate the smell and anticipation of baked goods fresh from the oven available every hour. Each hour will feature a different pastry, with the schedule as follows:

11:00 am organic Amalfi lemon madeleines
12:00 pm pistachio cookies
1:00 pm vanilla and sea salt financiers
2:00 pm chocolate madeleines
3:00 pm pecan and chocolate cookies
4:00 pm caneles
5:00 pm gingerbread cakes
6:00 pm gluten-free buckwheat madeleines
7:00 pm brookie (an original double-chocolate cookie-brownie hybrid item)

Highlights of the baked goods on offer include Amber’s signature gluten free buckwheat madeleines, a traditional small cake baked in scalloped tin. Instead of brown butter and Ekkebus’ variety replaced traditional flour with a blend of buckwheat, corn, and rice flours with extra virgin olive oil and coconut oil and zest of the Japanese sudachi lime for an uplifting citrus zing. All baked goods are available at HK$30 apiece.

The pop-up also offers a small handful of Ekkebus’ favourite desserts, served in 100ml mason jars for takeaway option. Highlights include dark gianduja mousse; Japanese bourbon vanilla custard with mango coulis; and organic Amalfi lemon blancmange. All jarred desserts are available throughout the day from 11:00 am to 8:00 pm
