2014 has been an extraordinary year for those who love to eat, with an unprecedented number of restaurants opening right from the very beginning. One of the most prolific contributors to the expanded dining scene has been Maximal Concepts, which has pulled off the feat of opening not just one but three restaurants (Fish & Meat, Stockton and Mott 32) in less than six months. At the time of going to print, the team was gearing up for its next project, Limewood.

Out of all of these, Mott 32 has been the crowning jewel in the Maximal Concepts crown. It’s an outstanding restaurant in so many ways – our initial review highlighted the barbecued Iberico pork as one of the best renditions in town, while the setting stopped us in our tracks. When we posed the question of which new restaurant should take away the Readers’ Choice award, the response was overwhelming.

The people have spoken: over 55 per cent of the eligible votes went to Mott 32, in a landslide victory. We pored over all of the comments submitted, and many highlighted the restaurant’s unique update on traditional Cantonese cookery as well as the unparalleled setting. One voter explained that Mott 32 demonstrated “creative use of a historic space,” and that the food is “an amazing mix of old and new, with some unique tastes and combinations.” Another praised the kitchen for “delicious food that strikes the perfect balance between traditional favourites and creative interpretation.” And the char siu was reason enough for many to keep coming back.

As one voter put it, Mott 32 is “masterfully created in both food and design.” We would certainly agree with that.

Mott 32, B/F, Standard Chartered Bank Building, 4-4A Des Voeux Road Central, Central; +852 2885-8688
