Nostalgic Peranakan flavours include a blend of heritage foods from different cuisines such as Chinese, Malay, Indian and Eurasian

Folklore has established itself as a destination serving up nostalgic Peranakan flavours, including a blend of heritage foods from different cuisines such as Chinese, Malay, Indian and Eurasian. The beef-cheek rendang is outstanding, with the meat cooked well in a gravy concocted with 15 different spices and ingredients. A restaurant signature, the sambal buah keluak fried rice is made with meat from the fermented buah keluak fruit and minced pork; the fragrant dish is unique in taste and flavourful with every bite. So is the sambal Juliana with fried brinjal, where the star of the dish is the sambal that’s painstakingly made with shallots, shrimp paste and chillis. The result with the fried brinjal is delicious, aromatic magic. For dessert, you can’t go wrong with the Peranakan favourite kueh kosui, a rice cake flavoured with pandan and gula melaka.
