The Hong Kong gin label is opening its first concept café and bar at The Mills on February 5

When the worlds of coffee and alcohol collide, you can be sure that we sit up and take notice, especially when it comes to born and bred Hong Kong brands. Created in Hong Kong, Perfume Trees Gin strive to capture the culture and essence of the city in their botanical creations.

Previously only available to shop online, the brand’s unique gin offerings are now going to be fully showcased at its own café and bar concept. Opening today (February 5) in Tsuen Wan’s The Mills, Tankyu Distillery will be serving a range of creative cocktails, which will unite the worlds of coffee, tea and spirits.

Cocktails on offer include the PTG British Cream Coffee, with Perfume Trees Gin, orange liqueur and coffee cream; the The View from Afternoon, with Perfume Trees Gin, Dolin Blanc vermouth, cold brew jasmine tea, Suze and jasmine tea leaves; and the Bitter Perfume, with Perfume Trees Gin, Campari, lime juice, pink grapefruit juice, mint and grapefruit bitters.

Continuing the trend for both CBD coffees and CBD alcoholic drinks in Hong Kong, Tankyu Distillery will also be incorporating CBD drops into several of its creations, such as the Tranquility, with Perfume Trees Gin, Grand Marnier, cold brew green tea and CBD drops; along with the Garden, crafted with Ceder’s Classic gin, cold brew coffee, rose syrup and CBD.

“In 2018, we created Perfume Trees Gin to capture the olfactory memory of the city. In the gloomy hours of our city, we wanted to create a white space to be a haven for the beautiful souls and spirits, to take a break from reality,”  states Perfume Trees Gin co-founder Kit Cheung says. Joseph Cheung, the other co-founder adds “Hong Kong has long stood for the value of capitalism and materialism. We live our way to strive for better living, usually in terms of power and money. Yet after all the restlessness in the past two years, Hong Kongers like ourselves see life differently––we all need a space to unwind and catch our breath.”

It seems that this message is exactly what the duo want to capture through the name of the distillery, which they say is inspired by the Chinese phrase “Tankyu”––meaning a dwelling in the hills where the spiritual immortals live and gather. The café bar itself aims to offer a zen respite from the city, with the 1,000-space decked out in antique white––striving to be a blank canvas for an array of opportunities, from spirits and cocktail masterclasses, to collaborations with local artists and creative talents.
