For the first time, Hong Kong’s bar culture is celebrated in a ranking of the continent’s best drinking establishments

Having developed a reputable bar culture, Hong Kong wins big at the inaugural Asia’s 50 Best Bars Awards, with nine fine drinking venues across the city nabbing the title. Other triumphant regions are Singapore — whose 28 Hongkong Street claims the title of Asia’s Best Bar at the top spot — and Shanghai’s Speak Low and Tokyo’s Bar High Five, winning second and third place respectively. Lobster Bar

Housed within the Island Shangri-la Hotel in Admiralty, Lobster Bar ranks number four on the top list, the highest among Hong Kong bars. Noted for its lavish but classic décor, guests can enjoy innovative bar-aged spirits together with an excellent cocktail selection.

Quinary

Celebrated for limitless creativity in designing cocktails, Quinary is earning sixth place, recognised for its futuristic techniques and food-science approach in presenting the bar’s signature drink, the Earl Grey Caviar Martinis, thanks to the owners Charlene Dawes and renowned local mixologist Antonio Lai.

The Pontiac

Valued for its cool vibe and creative drinks, the Pontiac took the 19th spot on the list. Embodying the spirit of rock ‘n’ roll, the bar is brought by the same team behind Rummin’ Tings, another cult favourite in Soho.

Honi Honi

Ranking 29th in the 50 best list, Honi Honi is celebrated for fresh cocktail concoctions designed and created by experienced partner Max Traverse. Stockton

Earning 31st place in the best 50, Maximal Concepts’ Stockton is tucked behind Wyndham Street in Central. Hidden it may be, the whisky selection is undoubtedly impressive. Do not miss the bar’s finely executed rum-based or whisky-based cocktails and punches, paired with the establishment’s food offerings such as scotch eggs, and sticky toffee pudding.

Zuma

Zuma Hong Kong wins 39th place on the list. The contemporary Japanese izakaya concept takes up two floors at the Landmark in Central. The bar and lounge space offers over 40 different varieties of sakes, Japanese whiskies and creative cocktails made with freshly prepared juice blends and spirits.

Local mixologist Antonio Lai adopts contemporary methods and stylish flair in creating each of the 12 gin infusions available at the Wyndham Street bar. Look for gin-based cocktails with a flavourful twist, as well as an expansive collection of classic cocktails and wines available. The bar earned number 44 on the list.

The Envoy

Mahalo Tiki Lounge

Located at the top floor of QRE Plaza in Wan Chai, Mahalo Tiki Lounge earns 47th place, rounding out the list of Hong Kong winning bars in the inaugural competition. Inspired by Hawaii in the 1970s, guests are greeted with with warm welcome and a selection of more than 50 tiki-inspired cocktails, including its signature Drunken Cherry, Mahalo Mule, and Polynesian Love, among many others.
