What's a National Day celebration without a drink or two?

This year's festivities shouldn't be centred on sumptuous local eats alone, given that our bar scene is equally buzzy. Here's what we propose: after a sumptuous dinner, don't call it a night just yet and head out for a nightcap at these bars. We chose this specifically for their delicious cocktails that pay tribute to our beautiful nation. Bonus: some of the mentioned watering holes offer the best views of the fireworks display on August 9.

1. Singapore Fling

Think of a cocktail that’s truly Singaporean and the iconic Singapore Sling immediately comes to mind. This is the inspiration behind the Sky Bar’s National Day offering—a refreshing concoction of Tanqueray London Gin, Bénédictine, Triple Sec, cherry and grenadine syrup, fresh lime juice, pineapple juice and soda water. The ideal way to toast to Singapore's 54th.

2. Rojak Milk Punch

Can you believe we’re celebrating Singapore’s birth? That alone deserves a toast, and if you find yourself at National Gallery Singapore, you can try head bartender Jorge Conde’s Rojak Milk Punch. Its base is the newly-launched Rojak gin mixed with spiced pechuga, milk, citrics, ginger torch aroma for piquant undertones, and topped with peanuts for additional texture. 3. Singa-star

You have the whole month of August to relish the Singa-star, made especially for the upcoming celebration. It’s a potent drink of Monkey 47 gin and Cinzano Bianco vermouth, but the alcohol is tempered with the addition of blueberry merlot tea infused with grapefruit, watermelon and mint syrups and pink grapefruit juice. It's finished off with soda and a slice of grapefruit.

4. Roaring City

On bar manager Michele Mariotti’s cocktail menu, nothing's more Singaporean than the Roaring City, which, as the name implies, is an ode to the Lion City. The invigorating drink is an amalgamation of sparkling pineapple tepache, vermouth jelly and curry leaf garnish—served on top of a colourful Peranakan tile. Order it on August 3 and 9 (6pm to 9pm) and avail of the discounted price as well as complimentary lobster roll and welcome drink.
