The creativity of the city’s mixologists is on display this November at the HK Bar Show
Throughout November, the Hong Kong Tourism Board is shining a spotlight on contemporary Chinese flavours through Wine & Dine in Hong Kong—Taste Around Town. To round out this month-long celebration of the city’s culinary scene, the HK Bar Show features 60 bars who will showcase specially made cocktails, inspired by Hong Kong.
Located across both Hong Kong Island and Kowloon, participating venues include five from Asia’s 50 Best Bars list, such as Argo at the Four Seasons Hotel Hong Kong, ranked number eight, and The Aubrey at Mandarin Oriental Hong Kong, ranked number 17.
Each bar will be serving up exclusive cocktails, inspired by the classic flavours of Hong Kong cuisine. Bar de Luxe, for example, will combine its authentic Japanese mixology with the ingredients from an iconic summer dessert, in Red Bean Ice. The innovative tipple blends Two Moon Gin, chestnut liqueur, milk, condensed milk and homemade red bean soup to deliver a refreshing yet nostalgic taste of Hong Kong's cha chaan tengs. At modern coffee shop cum cocktail bar, Urban Coffee Roaster, two local craft gins—Pale Ink and Perfume Trees—are mixed with The Bitter Truth elderflower liqueur and a double espresso in the Floral Espresso Martini.
Cocktail enthusiasts can purchase a ticket from the event website, after which they will receive a QR code. Each ticket comes with a certain number of tokens and, by presenting the electronic ticket and QR code at any of the 60 bars, participants will be able to savour a special cocktail created for the occasion. Additional tokens can be purchased through the website.
The HK Bar Show has also mapped out various bar routes, categorised under six themes—Best of the Best, Cocktail Craving, Music & Drinks, Bespoke Japanese, Gourmet & Drinks Hunting, and Victoria Side. The bar routes are based on location and include thoughtful suggestions to make the most of the experience.
The Best of the Best theme consists of a Central Route, and is made up of all the Central bars that also feature on the Asia’s 50 Best Bars list. Another Central Route within the Cocktail Craving theme takes participants to bars like the Instagram-worthy Madame Fu at Tai Kwun, while its Wan Chai Route includes the elegant St Regis Bar and the much-loved Champagne Bar at the Grand Hyatt Hong Kong.
In addition, the event includes guest shifts by renowned bartenders from across Asia such as Mars Chang, the owner of To Infinity and Beyond in Taiwan—number 52 of Asia’s Best Bars.
The HK Bar Show runs from November 1-30. Don’t miss out on the opportunity to celebrate all that Hong Kong has to offer and sample unique cocktails made by the city’s most talented mixologists.
