Want to enjoy your booze without the bloat? We’ve listed five low calorie cocktails to order at the bar. Besides, not only are sugary cocktails and mixed drinks not worth the calories, they’re also a recipe for a nasty hangover. Now go and get your drink on (responsibly, of course) you health-conscious degenerate, you.

1. Margarita

A margarita, when made right, is a great low-cal option. The recipe calls for tequila, lime juice, and a dash of agave syrup or Cointreau. You can ask the bartender to go extra light on the syrup or skip it altogether. Also, avoid any pre-made margarita mixes, which are often packed with sugar.

Not only is this classic cocktail one of the oldest recipes in the book—it dates back over 200 years—it's also one of the lowest calorie drinks you can order at the bar, as it's free from any mixers, syrups or fruit juice.

3. Martini

A simple mixture of gin and vermouth, martinis—like the old fashioned—are low calorie thanks to the absence of any mixers. Ordering a "dry" martini means more gin and just a splash of vermouth, and if you want to skip the sodium from the olives, ask for your martini "with a twist" for lemon instead.

This refreshing drink is a summer staple. Traditionally, this timeless cocktail comes with vodka, ginger beer, lime and sugar syrup—but if you ask your bartender nicely to skip the syrup, a Moscow Mule clocks in at around 100 calories.

Ask for extra Tabasco, as registered dietitian Abbey Sharp of Abbey's Kitchen says, "when a drink is super spicy, it slows down my drinking and encourages me to have a sip of water between each sip of alcohol."
