Award-Winning Whisky Timah Officially Launches In Malaysia

The whisky's name is inspired by Malaysia's tin-mining past

Malaysian-made whisky Timah has been making waves internationally. Last year, it was awarded a silver medal at the International Spirits Challenge 2020 (ISC) and the Annual San Francisco World Spirits Competition 2020 (SFWSC), where judges called it “an outstanding spirit that displays refinement, finesse and complexity”.

More recently, the homegrown brand took home another accolade, as it was awarded a gold medal, and named the Best Malaysian Whisky at this year’s International Whisky Competition (IWC). Malaysians can now try this award-winning blend themselves since it was officially launched here on October 7.

Timah is a carefully crafted blend of two aged peated malts and a neutral spirit of local origin. This whisky has been described as light and fruity, a harmonious mix of primarily smoke with a hint of a floral bouquet.

The bottle is emblazoned with the image of Captain Tristan Speedy, a British adventurer who was a peacekeeper during the Larut Wars of Perak from 1861-74. He is also believed to be the man who introduced whisky culture to Malaysia.

“Whisky lovers will appreciate the peatiness and complex flavour. Beginners will also enjoy the blend because it is very smooth, easy to drink and mixes well. Timah was created with the Asian palate in mind with a mild yet distinctive peat character as well as slight sweetness,” says Govin Singh, Winepak Corporation Malaysia's marketing representative

“It should be regarded as a new generation of whisky with subtle twists to its character. This gives it a uniqueness that will appeal to both established drinkers and the new generation that seeks modernity, quality and something different.”
