For the ultimate gift to mark the new year, look no further than the finest cognac in the land. Please enjoy responsibly.
If you were to ask a cognac connoisseur what their first choice would be, many of them might answer Louis XIII by Rémy Martin. A byword for quality, Louis XIII is known for its exquisite crystal craftsmanship as well as being a constant presence at celebrations of every important and precious moment in life.
As the saying goes, there is no occasion without spirits. In the world of spirits, cognac is the best; and in the world of cognac, Louis XIII is the pinnacle—admired by distillers and bid over by collectors. But how fitting, really, is Louis XIII of such monikers as "the king of spirits"? It turns out that time is the power that gives Louis XIII its unique flavor, as each bottle of Louis XIII embodies the life-long skills of the cellar masters of generations past.

Through the generations
Since its inception in 1874, the recipe for blending Louis XIII has been carefully guarded by the cellar masters and passed on to their successors, continuing the centuries-old journey of Louis XIII without interruption.
Louis XIII is blended with over 1,200 of the finest and most precious eaux-de-vie, each of which is distilled from grapes only grown in Grande Champagne—the premier cru of the Cognac region. The cognac is then carefully blended, and slowly aged in old Limousin tierçons (traditional aged French oak casks) over the years to create the liquid inside every crystal decanter. Drawing its essence from provenance and time, each sip of Louis XIII is a taste of a finely tuned craft passed down from one generation of cellar master to the next, with incumbent cellar master Baptiste Loiseau overseeing the grand tradition today.

Precious moments with exquisite craftsmanship
However, the significance of Louis XIII as a gift is not only the value of time, but the refined crystal craftsmanship as showcased by the prized crystal decanter. In commemoration of King Louis XIII, who was the first to classify Cognac as a category in its own right in the world of eaux-de-vie, storied French glass-makers Baccarat and Saint-Louis, both of which were also favourites of French royalty, were commissioned to create the bottle.
Upon closer inspection, it's evident that the classic crystal decanters are all hand blown by skilled craftsmen, with the technique being passed down from generation to generation. The bottleneck is decorated with 20-karat gold, and the bottom and stopper are engraved with a unique and exclusive serial number. The ornamentation is a symbolic motif of the French royal family, engraved into the depths of the crystal bottle, marking Louis XIII as the final word in luxury.
Fashions fade, but only classics remain forever. At a time of year where timeless traditions are to be celebrated, a gathering with family and friends over a glass of Louis XIII is certainly a moment that will last in memory for years to come.
