Largely known as an expat hub, Mont Kiara has been welcoming new tenants—including a hotel and a shopping mall—in recent months. Increasing options for dining out provide all the more reason to explore the neighbourhood.

1. Crust By Patty & Pie

At first there was Patty & Pie. A labour of love by husband-wife team Nadal Murray and Shahreen Bux, the pork-free eatery received a warm welcome from the residents of Aman Suria when it opened half a decade ago.

Along came Crust. Like its sister restaurant, burgers and pizzas form its DNA. Quality ingredients, from beef chorizo to blue cheese, are sandwiched between pretzel buns or scattered over a sourdough pizza base. Accommodating features include a kids play area as well as a terrace. View the menu.

2. Paradise Dynasty

A worthy contender to Din Tai Fung, Paradise Dynasty whips up delicious xiao long bao and even ups the ante by offering the iconic soup dumplings in an assortment of flavours (original, crab roe, cheese, garlic, ginseng, Szechuan, foie gras and black truffle).

We can vouch for the chewy, hand-stretched la mian, mouth-numbingly spicy Szechuan crispy chicken, and pan-fried Shanghai pork buns — caution, filling is hot! View the full menu.

3. Rocket Kitchen

Proving that #cleaneating isn't a passing phase, Rocket Kitchen at 163 Retail Park sees a steady flow of gym-goers headed to or coming from nearby fitness centres.

Easily one of the better build-your-own-bowl eastablishments we frequent, Rocket Kitchen puts out enormous, appetising portions.

Pile your plate high with a base (quinoa, cauliflower rice, pasta, cos lettuce, et cetera), protein (paprika flank steak, seared salmon, turmeric chicken breast, et cetera) and supplements (braised red cabbage, roasted sweet potatoes, okra, edamame, et cetera).

Take a peek at the menu.

4. Fei Fan Hotpot

The ideal meal on a damp, dreary day, hot pot does wonders to cheer up the hungry diner. Fei Fan Hotpot, which first opened in SS15, has met immediate success with its second outlet in 163 Retail Park.

Choose up to 2 varieties of soup (pork bone; tomato; pepper pig's stomach; and spicy mala), housemade meatballs and dumplings, and fresh cuts of meat ranging from pork belly to chicken marinated in rice wine, before going to town on a wide selection of sauces (self-service).

Waiting time can run up to 2 hours without a reservation, so plan wisely. Peruse the menu.

5. What's On Tap

A curious addition to Plaza Mont Kiara, this futuristic, all-white café resembles an Apple store more than an F&B establishment. From portafilter to steam wands, parts belonging to the standard espresso machine are embeded into the counter, blurring the lines between coffee equipment and interior design.

Lured by the promise of warm cappuccinos and cool Instagram photo ops, curious customers have been stopping by in droves. You'll find Nitro brews on tap and sweets treats displayed in glass cases on the far right of the counter (get the chocolate chip cookie with a sprinkling with sea salt).
