The baked Australian rock oysters and the bread and butter pudding are noteworthy winners.

True to its name, Vogue Café is the epitome of muted elegance, featuring contemporary style décor that comes complete with a floor-to-ceiling view of the Jalan Sultan Ismail and Jalan Ampang. Its strategic location in two of the busiest streets in KL city also guarantees a steady stream of diners during dinnertime during peak time traffic. All these factors come together in fashioning Vogue Café as a buzzing food hub.

The décor also guarantees a sizable space for the tantalising buffet spreads that the all-day dining outlet offers. One of the restaurant’s chief attractions is its weekly dinner buffet, made available on Fridays and Saturdays from 6.30pm to 10.30pm.

Whether you wish to have a speedy or leisurely meal whilst sampling this dinner buffet, rest assured that you will be under the best of hands – thanks to the courteous and seasoned waiting staff on deck here.

A quick glimpse at what’s on offer reveals that Vogue Café’s dinner buffet encompasses both local and international cuisine, curated by Chef Kevin Kristensen. Naturally, the first pit stop to make should be the cold counter, where plentiful of salads, cold cuts and cheese selections are available with condiments.

Adjoining the cold counter is the sashimi, sushi and seafood counter, where generous slices of raw fish as well as maki rolls and nigiri sushi are served with wasabi and quality soy sauce. Seafood on ice here will delight those with a love for crustaceans and bivalve molluscs; you can choose between oyster, yabbies, boiled prawns and mussels.

Alternatively, you can pick any of the above seafood and hand the selections you have made over to the staff manning the station to have it boiled into a rich, piping hot bowl of soup via Chinese wonton stock. From the live seafood station, a personal favourite of this writer is the baked Australian rock oysters. Despite the use of cheese and delicate sprinkles of spice, the oyster’s natural flavours are still intact with every bite.

The hot selections offer the best of East meets West: think mee goreng mamak (with premium ingredients thrown in), chicken tikka masala, wok-fried prawn Szechuan pepper, sotong berlada and thyme-glazed chicken wings. As you scoop any of these mouthwatering dishes to your plate to complement a serving of fragrant steamed rice, you will also be able to smell the hearty roasted whole prime rib and roasted whole lamb leg from the carving station; so do make a pitstop there too so you could give the meats a try.

In a clever move, one of the central focal point of Vogue Café’s dinner spread is the dessert section – comprising of a chocolate fountain with dried fruit on skewers, Malaysian desserts such as ice kacang and pastries. There is an assortment of textures and colours at play here, from cakes, tarts, puddings and ice cream. The bread and butter pudding is a noteworthy winner, as it has a dense flavour that goes well with the accompanying vanilla ice cream. The rich chocolate cake here is also as decadent and moist as it looks – and it is an absolutely satisfying way to end a dinner here at Vogue Café.
