Thanks to our geographical location, Hong Kong has long been known for both its variety of seafood and the local's love of it. Oysters, lobsters, sea urchin: all feature regularly on our best restaurants' menus. Even though the waters surrounding Hong Kong is a tad too warm to harvest oysters, luckily, globalisation has enabled us to enjoy the best oysters from France, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand and the US. Here are the top five oysters bar in Hong Kong for when you next get your oyster craving.
Located at the basement level of Prince's Building in Central, DotCod is one of the first restaurants in Hong Kong to promote a sustainable and environmentally conscious menu while still serving the freshest and highest quality seafood from around the globe. For its oyster selection, DotCod usually serves an average of six to eight varieties from four different countries, depending on the season. Right now, it is serving French, Australian, American and New Zealand oysters; while later in the year, it will serve oysters from Ireland, England and Spain. We recommend the New Zealand rock oyster that is crunchy with a refreshing sea taste and also the Gillardeau from western France that has a briny flavour with a soft texture. DotCod serves its oysters with four different condiments, including tomato-basil salsa, mango salsa, shallot mignonette and cocktail sauce.
For diners who want to eat cooked oysters, it offers three styles of baked oysters, mornay, Florentine and Kilpatrick, that are not on the menu. Occasionally, its chef will offer special items such as crispy beer battered oysters with tartar sauce and oyster roasted in shell topped with chive butter and Pernod foam.

One of the best ways to enjoy oysters is to have them by the sea and Rocksalt in Stanley is the perfect location. Situated along the main promenade in Stanley and with a stunning view of the Stanley Bay directly ahead, it gives diners a relaxing and serene atmosphere to enjoy their oysters. Rocksalt offers three different types of oysters, namely Coffin Bay from Southern Australia that has a sweet sea taste with smooth texture and clean aftertaste, Bruny Bay from Tasmania that has a buttery texture and a fresh seaweed taste; and also Sydney Rock from New South Wales that has a firmer texture and a smoky aftertaste.
Rocksalt serves its oysters on a bed of spiced salt to hold the oysters upright and also maintain the juices inside the shell so that guests can taste the flavours of the waters where the oysters originated from and highlight the different tastes of each region. The oysters are complemented with two very simple sauces, a light spiced vinegar and peppered brandy cocktail sauce; and can also be served in Kilpatrick style upon request.
