The esteemed tempura restaurant will open its doors by mid-October 2020

Global Link, the restaurant group that operates Central’s Sushi Saito, Ta Vie, Muni by La Bombance, and soon-to-relocate Tenku Ryugin, will import another Japanese staple from Tokyo. This October, the celebrated Tempura Uchitsu will open in Hong Kong, residing in a restaurant space adjacent to Sushi Saito on the 45th floor of the Four Seasons Hong Kong.

It’s exciting news for those who love high quality tempura, as this will be the restaurant’s first international outpost. Chef Takahisa Uchitsu opened the original Tempura Uchitsu in summer of 2008 in Tokyo’s Shibuya neighbourhood, earning its first Michelin star in 2010, followed by a two-star rating in 2014. A tempura-only omakase menu featuring seasonal ingredients is the key to Uchitsu’s success. The new restaurant will follow the interior style of its sister restaurant, where guests sit in front of an open kitchen while the chefs prepare tempura piece by piece.

The new tempura restaurant will be managed by 46-year-old Japanese chef Hara Eisaku. The Fukuoka-native began his culinary career at the age of 18; Eisaku spent 15 years polishing his craft at kaiseki-restaurant Tsukiji Tamura in Japan and relocated to Hong Kong to work as the head tempura chef at Causeway Bay’s Ta-Ke in 2018. Eisaku relocated back to Japan in 2019, but not for long as he will loop back once more to launch Tempura Uchitsu this autumn.
