In waffles we trust! If the sweet smell of maple syrup and the appetising crunch of waffles whet your appetite, check out our compilation of the best waffles in the Klang Valley:

1. VCR

Weekends are meant for brunching, and VCR remains one of our favourite brunch spots for their creative fare, and by that we mean their delicious savoury waffles. The potato waffles are delectable, whether served with crunchy fried chicken and drizzled with chrysanthemum-infused maple syrup (only available in Bangsar) or served with two perfectly poached eggs plus a dollop of tomato puree.

2. Urban Daybreak

Urban Daybreak, which first opened in Penang and expanded to KL earlier this year, does fried chicken and waffles especially well. The Aussie-style café pays homage to the Southern-style dish with waffles topped with crispy chicken karage, a sunny side up egg, baked beans and maple mustard. The savoury dish is the perfect means to start your mornings or recovery Sundays. The Penang branch also serves waffles with pork stew whereas Bangsar does a sweet take using poached pears.

3. The Owl's Cafe

Have an 'owlsome' time at The Owls Cafe, an eatery solely devoted to waffles. The iconic waffles here are shaped like flowers, which makes them easy to pull apart. Toppings range from berries, bananas and homemade Earl Grey ice cream to the classic French butter and maple syrup. Come in a large party to sample more of their exciting combinations.

4. Entier French Dining

Entier French Dining serves sweet and savoury waffles every weekend. In fact, their brunch menu revolves around French-style waffles and tropical caviar from Tanjung Malim. In case you were wondering how French waffles compare to their American counterpart, the former are crunchier on the outside and chewier on the inside. Pair your waffles with Pahang-sourced chocolate or crab meat, lobster jelly and pepper cream. Pardon our French, but these waffles are damned delicious.

Chequers ventures out of the box with their take on waffles; think deconstructed tiramisu (waffle sticks with mascarpone cheese, chocolate shavings and a side of espresso) and salty matcha (matcha waffles with fruit, ice cream, Oreo crumbles, whipped cream and salted egg sauce). The American-inspired diner also serves savoury waffles if that's what you're craving.

6. Inside Scoop

Inside Scoop always impresses us with their buttermilk and charcoal waffles. Crispy on the outside yet warm and fluffy at the core, the waffles at this homegrown ice cream parlour are great paired with salted egg yolk sauce, Nutella, sliced bananas and, of course, ice cream — you'll be buzzing from the best sugar high.
