Tao, the resident Chinese restaurant at InterContinental Hotel KL, presents diners with a cosy and elegant ambience featuring the bloom of the pale pink April peach flowers as a signature motif while its dazzling cloud-like ceiling emulates the sensation of dining under the stars.

The Chinese New Year dinner sets begin with the much-anticipated yee sang toss to be complemented with a steaming cup of Tao’s exclusive black Chinese tea, infused with a hint of fragrant rosehip oil to nourish the skin and reduce blood pressure (not included in the set).

A must-try from the Full of Joy dinner set is the South African lobster tempura yee sang, which features traditional yee sang ingredients smothered in Chef Wong Lian’s secret handmade plum sauce and topped with mouth-watering lobster balls and crispy salmon skin. The marriage of ginger and lime in the yee sang create the perfect balance of sweet and sour while the crispy salmon skin and golden crackers complete the dish with its contrasting crunchy texture.

Yee sang varieties in the other dinner sets include the Australian abalone fillet with fresh salmon yee sang and the Hokkaido scallops, fresh salmon and wasabi sauce yee sang while the lunch sets include the salmon yee sang and the vegetarian tempura mushroom with snow pear yee sang.

The Full of Joy dinner set continues with a helping of double boiled baby abalone dumplings with caviar and superior stock.

Here, 4 different types of caviar nestle atop a jumbo dumpling containing premium abalone cooked to perfection. Tender and warm, the dumpling is steamed before the caviar is added and then steamed again after the tasty addition has been made. The various types of caviar offer bursts of different flavours to the dish, which adds dimension to the delicious golden broth that surrounds it.

Next up on the Full of Joy set menu is the flavourful fortune pot brimming with 15 fresh ingredients including sea cucumber (for collagen), dried oyster sea moss rolls, roasted duck, soy chicken, mushrooms, dried scallops, fish maw, prawns, moneybag, pomfret fillet, Hokkaido scallops, cabbage, broccoli, bean curd stick, yam, and crabmeat pumpkin sauce, served with steamed Jasmine rice.

Also known as Poon Choy, this pot of pure pleasure is one of the auspicious dishes to have during Chinese New Year as it symbolises wealth, abundance, unity and happiness in a family when its members come together and share a meal from one big pot during the festive celebration. Made with a special chicken and pumpkin broth as the base and boiled for six hours, the best part of this dish can be found at the bottom where all the juices from the ingredients have simmered together to create a delicious experience for diners.

Once content with the hearty meal, diners are treated to a dessert combination of a deep-fried golden mini “ninko” bun served with chilled bird’s nest with hawthorn, snow fungus, peach and aloe vera. While the sweet chilled bird’s next offers guests a dose of nutritional benefits, the golden ninko bun is so delicate and refined that a second helping may be required.

Besides dinner, the lunch sets offer a variety of different dishes including a handmade dim sum combination platter with favourites such as the steamed shrimps mini pumpkin dumplings, pan-fried smoked duck, radish cake served with golden crabmeat sauce and dried oyster and barbequed chicken puffs.

Tao's CNY 8-course set dinners are available beginning RM1,688++ per table of 10 persons. On top of that, it also offers CNY 7-course set lunches beginning from RM148++ per person.
