Discerning foodies know that when it comes to seafood, you can’t do much better than Seafood Paradise. A true legend in the local dining scene, it started as a humble hawker stall in the early 2000s and expanded its business with a couple more outlets. It wasn't long before it became one of the top spots for fresh and delicious seafood, cooked Chinese-style but with a Singapore touch.

The restaurant celebrates another milestone: A move of its flagship outlet from Defu Lane to Marina Bay Sands, so it’s now more convenient for us to enjoy the signature dishes that made everyone fall in love with it in the first place.

Despite the big move, chief operating officer of Paradise Group, Eldwin Chua, ensures that its commitment to quality has not changed, and that it will continue offering its signature items, albeit in a more comfortable setting.

The new 177-seater restaurant is located on the second level of The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands, alongside the famed celebrity chef restaurants. The space is simple yet elegant, and is flanked by floor-to-ceiling wooden panels for a warm and welcoming feel.

The extensive menu features a variety of live seafood which includes fish, crabs and other shellfish cooked in various ways. If you’re hungry for something other than what’s on the menu, don’t be afraid to make special requests.  The culinary team led by executive chef Tiew Boon Wee has lots of tricks up their sleeves, such as deep-frying crabs in a house blend of spices or coating them in a rich and creamy butter sauce with coconut crumbs.

Signature creamy butter crab

Of course, you can’t go wrong with tried-and-tested favourites, such as the Singapore style chilli crab. Its own take on the iconic dish sees succulent Sri Lankan crabs bathed in a well-balanced sweet and spicy sauce. Get cracking on the signature creamy butter crab topped with coconut crabs, Dungeness crabs coated in a secret sauce made fresh daily with various herbs and spices. Both dishes are served with mantou buns so you can mop up every last drop of the addictive sauce.

However, there’s so much more to Seafood Paradise than its crab dishes. For one, the steamed seabass with assam spicy sauce comes in a huge portion and is perfect for sharing with the family. It’s served in one claypot that’s brimming with tangy sauce, onions, ladyfingers and tomatoes.

To complete the feast, order the Japanese pen shell with egg white. The fresh and briny pen shell mixed in egg and served with a touch of ebiko and dried scallop, is a light yet memorable dish.
